A tremendous box set for fans trying to piece together Brian Wilson's uncompleted masterpiece : Smile.  The LP set / 1st CD contains one approximate creation, which quite closely follows Brian Wilson's "completion" in 2004, but this is pieced together from the original session tapes and multitracks.  The meat of the set is a voluminous treasure trove of sessions and takes - which shows Smile in it's varying stages of development and gives one the idea of how this ambitious music was conceived, recorded and pieced together.  'Smile' was obviously never finished - but it is quite clear from the focus and inspiration running the Wilson during the sessions, that it in better circumstances, it could have been.  Smile is the great riddle of Rock n' Roll - and this box set not only allows you to revel in it, but invites you to solve the mystery yourself.    A worthy box set for afficianados of art-pop. 

Condition - I Grade NM/ EX / VG+ / VG / VG- / G / F

Box - some rubbing and marks from storage - but no serious issues. 

CDs - The CDs have, at most, been played a few times.  The storage slots aren't the most practical - and some of the cds have picked up light scratches and marks.  I played through these CDs and they played fine, as they should.  I would've attempted to clean the CDs, but don't have the necessary tools to do the job properly here.   

LPs - EX The LPs have been played a few times.  Disc 1 has a very slight storage warp, but it doesn't affect play.  The first LP has a few very light scratches and on one side, a pressing dimple, which brings no dicernible problems.  Plays great, with a very occasional whiff of crackle, and sounds a little warmer than the CD.  Could possibly do with a clean/dust.. A little wear around the spindlehole.   Sleeve has minimal storage wear (EX)

7"s -  NM Both have been played twice at most - play as they should!

Ephemera
Top bottom right hand corner of the hardback book has had it's corner bumped.  Pages unaffected.  Clean.
Poster and picturebook are both fine. 
The backsheet - original stuck to the rear under shrinkwrap - is a little creased, but again, fine.

Who Wants This?
A used, but well looked after copy.  No major problems apart from a few inconspicous cosmetic issues.  If you want to wade in to this boxset and enjoy it - it's fine and will bring you many hours of enjoyment (The hardback book is engrossing enough!)..  If you are after a pristine copy, I would buy a sealed one.
