THE BEATLES 1967 UK 1ST STEREO PRESS SGT PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND.
By my reckoning from the runouts this is a low stampered press from the 2nd and 4th mothers of the first laquers cut...
Side 1 - YEX 637-1 2 GOM (K T tax code on label)
Side 2 - YEX 638-1 4 GMP

Vinyl - surface wear is remarkably low and i suppose in line with its low overall use! I buy alot of 70s records and this is visually better than some of the NM ones ive had. There are but 3 or 4 small inaudible minor marks to both sides in total and under torchlight things look much the same with perhaps a couple more super faint hairlines on top, at a push. The labels are abit speckly yet clean and have a couple of minor spindle marks. The Lp is well centred but does have a small but insignificant warp. Played fully through once on my vintage Pioneer PL-51 with Shure MM the pressing is very much of its time with the period constant minor snap and crackle which is far from intrusive and - imo - somewhat comforting, i cant imagine many better! I counted 3 minor pops aside from the usual period noise. The aformentioned minor warp causes no tracking issues so i wouldnt bother having it flattened. It plays back better than i myself would ever expect a used first press to play. No two ears and setups are the same so your mileage may vary but my humble grading setup reveals a fine sounding record... many carts will be even quieter still. Final subjective comment is to say against the clean cut 2009 remaster there is that prized analogue warmth and depth that this has over the 2009 in spades. The 2017 remix is of course another thing altogether.
Jacket - original rarer wide spine (where parts of front and back artwork overlap onto the spine) laminated gatefold jacket. Its in excellent shape with no major wear or damage and no spilts or laminate loss! Wear is present in form of minor ringwear, slight bend of spine and a few wrinkles to the laminate plus a price sticker mark to front. The inner sleeve is not the original but a period item, now with a Nagaoka poly liner to help out. The original cut outs are present and in excellent condition.
