Description
Very first mono press of A Hard Days Night
The matrix numbers are XEX 481-3N and XEX 482-3N.
The perimeter text starts The Parlophone Co Ltd and at 9 o’clock on the label it states Recording first published 1964 – on second presses the perimeter text reads The Gramophone Co Ltd and at 9 o’clock on the label it just reads p 1964
The sleeve is in very good condition, just the odd touch of laminate creasing, some minor shelfwear and the odd spot of discolouration on the rear. Could have rated it higher if someone hadn't written LAX on the top right at the rear (see picture).
The emitex inner is present and just has a little creasing/ringwear - no splits or writing.
The record itself looks really nice, it's still got a great shine and only has the usual light marks you'd expect for a record of this age. There's surprisingly not a lot of wear around the spindle holes.
The last time I played it, some time ago, I noted that it played very well. There was some feint crackle here and there, most noticable between tracks, and 3 or 4 feint ticks on Can’t Buy Me Love but no skips or jumps. I doubt this will have changed but a clean may be in order.
Overall a nice copy of a very 1st press
