Overall Description
Here we have a lovely clean example of a 1st press Abbey Road!!
So often this record is battered due to its age, and the fact people like to listen to good music!! But this is a really clean copy, and a real rarity to find it like this!!
It comes with the original unlaminated aligned apple sleeve (not all 1st presses were misaligned!)
First pressing, September 26, 1969.
Dark green label with an image of an apple on side 1 and sliced apple on side 2.
First label variation have “An E.M.I. Recording” text on two lines and small “33 1/3? text moved to the left side. Publishing year printed with small copyright symbol (p).
The label does not have Her Majesty credit on the side 2.
The labels are darker than all later pressings
Matrix and Stampers
Side 1 YEX-749-2 7 NAA
Side 2 YEX-750-1 10 RHH
Outer Sleeve
The Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd outer sleeve is in lovely condition! There are no rips, tears or stains at all. It’s so close to a Nr Mint, with only some mild creasing to one part of the spine bringing it down to an Excellent+. There is no writing at all. The spine is perfectly readable. The corners are sharp as are the edges. All the colours are as vibrant as they ever were!! Excellent ++
Inner Sleeves
Original black inner with grooved edges has no rips or tears. It’s close to pristine, with a little mild folding being the signs of its 40 year age!! Excellent +
Labels
The iconic sliced apple labels are divine!! There are no rips, tears, writing or stains at all!! Under a strong halogen, only the faintest spindle line is visible. Clear to see record has hardly been played!! The only down side is where a sticker has been removed. The sticker removal looks like it was heat synced on!! This may indicate a factory sticker, or a very careful owner, either way they looked after the record!! Because of the sticker it loses a Nr Mint and goes to a Very good! Very Good +
Vinyl Visual
It still retains its wonderful factory pressed shine and lustre. Under a strong halogen bulb, only the faintest wisps of hairlines can be seen. It really is an astounding looking vinyl, that won’t disappoint So very very rare in this stunning condition!! Excellent
Vinyl Audio
Listened to the record all the way through, and it sounds superb! There are no jumps or skips or sticking of any sort. It plays through sublimely!! There was no distortion at all!! I heard just one slight pop on side 1!! Just a perfect playback at the best quality. Such a punchy defined sound!! Al the dynamics of the band are sharp and separable. Here comes the Sun sounds utterly immense!! Stunning Excellent +
Overall
So there we have it, a stunning once in a lifetime Excellent + playback of an 1st press Beatles classic!!
