THE BEATLES: "ABBEY ROAD LP - Rare Original UK Press with Misaligned Apple Logo (Apple PCS 7088)
The Beatles' last days as a band were as productive as any major pop phenomenon that was about to split. After recording the ragged-but-right Let It Be, the group held on for this ambitious effort, an album that was to become their best-selling. Though all four contribute to the first side's writing, John Lennon's hard-rocking, "Come Together" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" make the strongest impression. A series of song fragments edited together in suite form dominates side two; its portentous, touching, official close ("Golden Slumbers"/"Carry That Weight"/"The End") is nicely undercut, in typical Beatles fashion, by Paul McCartney's cheeky "Her Majesty," which follows.
Vinyl is in superb condition, on first inspection it looks virtually unplayed, retaining most of its original shine. This one has obviously been played very little, and always treated with extreme care - a beautiful piece! As you surely already know, it's becoming increasingly difficult to find classic vinyl in such nice condition. This one has no bad scratches or surface marks, and just a few paper marks and very light hairlines seen under strong light, and without any impact whatsoever on sound reproduction. Playing the record, I can confirm that play-grade coincides with visual grading - it plays superbly, without any clicks or pops, jumps or crackle. Record is graded as excellent, if not better!
Original dark-green Apple labels - with no 'Her Majesty' - are also excellent, without any tears or writing, just a number of light spindle marks.
Stunning fully laminated sleeve - again, no 'Her Majesty' - is in fantastic condition for its age - please have a look at the photographs, I do my best to give an accurate detail of item's condition! It shows 100% solid seams, no splits or tears, no writing, no ring, no spine wear, perfect graphics, and only a few creases near edges and slight bumps to top and bottom left corners - top one quite prominent, see pic - to detract it from attaining an even higher grade! Spine is fully and clearly readable. Rare misaligned Apple logo by song titles on back! Cover must warrant an excellent grade, if not better! Also included is original white ploy-lined inner sleeve, in excellent condition. These pressings are extremely hard to find, in any condition - even more so on the stunning shape this one is in. Don't miss your chance to own one!
