Description
An original 1st press of AR on the UK Apple label from 1969. Matrix 2/1 - 1st cut. The TRUE 1st pressing is easily identifiable by the absence of 'HER MAJESTY' after 'The End' on side 2. Worth holding out for a true 1st - they were pressed heavy and the audio is to die for. The vinyl comes housed in an original cover printed by Garrod with the slim spine. We also have a genuine black Apple inner sleeve with the correct die-cut circle and exposed flip-backs. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete. We will ship the LP in a poly-lined inner sleeve for maximum protection.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) I haven't heard one like this for quite sometime. It's one of those very occasional items that really has only seen minimal use. Just take a look at the label shots - difficult to comprehend how they have survived in this sort of condition. But does it sound as good as it looks? Read on...Under close inspection I can only make out a few very slight super-superficial bag-rash markings, a couple of very slight marks per side - that really is all. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with just a couple of deviations. Any copy of AR operating up and around the Ex grading is going to impress. But anything hovering around Ex+ for the most part is a real find. You're going to get a very lush and well rounded delivery. But on top of this you are going to get treated some outstanding ability to dig really deep into the mix. Hear the intricate percussion with a quiet background - it just adds extra atmosphere. This copy is without a doubt within the best three copies I've witnessed and shows you can instantly hear why these copies are so sought after. Hearing that ultra-fussy 'Here Comes The Sun' opening up clean - is a real treat. 'Because' - again a total nightmare to find playing clean - this example plays it like it's a "walk-in-the park". There's NO distortion at the end of side 1 - which can be an issue on even relatively good copies. Let's be realistic, here, for a moment. You will detect a few low-level static crackles in the quietest moments of "Sun King". But this is hands down THE fussiest track on AR - and this example will still play it better than 90% of copies. I detected a couple of ticks in 'Come Together' [quite minor] - and a further couple in 'H.C's The Sun' and one click in 'C.T.Weight.'... There are so many tricky and intricate moments on side 2 that very few copies will actually deliver it to a high standard [a properly clean standard]. BUT this copy can do it. Aces!
Cover (Ex/Ex+) Quite frankly a bit of a stunner. Very rarely do you see AR looking this plush and well cared for. The front is superb barring just the slightest record impression and a couple of tiny thumbnail creases, and a slight crease in the top right corner. The rear is pretty much a stone cold mint. There's no observable edge wear and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is 100% perfect. Even the corners are not subject to bumps - they are still nice and pointy [this is very unusual]. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Truly a lovely looking specimen.
Inner (Ex) In beautiful condition and very very few will be looking this fine. Just a one inch bottom edge split. That's all.
