Description
Originally released in the Fall of 1969, 'Abbey Road' was not the last original Lp by The Beatles to be released ---'Let It Be' appeared in mid-1970 ---but it was the last (studio) Lp by the Fab Four to be recorded. It topped the UK chart for 17 weeks and the US chart for 11. For a band that was about to break up it was a hell of a way to say goodbye.
On offer is a 1st UK pressing from 1969 on Apple Records (PCS 7088). Cover and record label omit the song 'Her Majesty' which comes on at the very end of Side 2.
Cover: Excellent(-) .....a very fragile cover due to it being made (in the UK) with fairly thin card stock. The spine was incredibly thin and easily prone to wear. That said, this one has fared far better than the ones that do come up for sale. There is only some minor paper loss at mid-spine to contend with. The lamination still has decent shine. Apart from some inoffensive creasing in a few places, this cover looks beautiful.
Record: VG+ to Excellent......decent weight and thickness; good shine to both surfaces ....both labels are clean and have some spindle marks. Under strong light one can see some hairlines and superficial scuff lines but most do not have any impact on the audio. There are no loud clicks or pops to worry about. Like on any 51 year old vintage pressing one will occasionally hear a bit of low level static-like background in the quiet segments and in-between songs. Only 2 or 3 songs grade VG ~ VG+ and the rest easily grade Excellent. I listened to this record from beginning to end and I can assure you it sounds superb.
