Description
This is the highly collectible early Mobile Fidelity audiophile edition, distinguished immediately by the yellow ORIGINAL MASTER RECORDING banner across the top of the jacket.
The album was half-speed mastered by Stan Ricker from the stereo master source and manufactured using Mobile Fidelity’s audiophile production process. The rear jacket specifically identifies the pressing as JVC Super High Definition Vinyl, an imported pressing with half-speed mastering by Stan Ricker. Contemporary documentation for MFSL 1-023 likewise identifies the issue as Japanese-pressed and half-speed mastered by Ricker.
The cream-colored labels carry both the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab and Capitol identification, catalog MFSL 1-023, and state “Pressed in Japan.”
The deadwax also carries the expected MFSL 1-023 matrix information visible in the photographs. MFSL copies of this edition are documented with the distinctive SR/2 Stan Ricker mastering identification in the runouts.
Record plays VG audio.
The vinyl retains strong gloss and presents nicely, with normal light signs of handling and play consistent with the grade. The labels remain clean and attractive.
The outer jacket is substantially more worn than the record and should be considered accordingly. There is pronounced wear along the top edge/seam, including separation, fraying and peeling of the laminated/cardboard construction, clearly shown in the close-up photograph. Additional edge wear, corner wear, surface rubbing and handling wear are visible elsewhere on the jacket.
Despite the jacket wear, the famous Abbey Road front artwork remains colorful and highly recognizable, and the yellow Mobile Fidelity Original Master Recording banner remains fully present.
Please examine all photographs carefully, especially the close-up of the top seam, as the photographs show the exact copy being offered and are an important part of the condition description.
