Incredibly rare copy of the 7th Beatles single released in Norway in March, 1964. This issue, just like the other issues of The Beatles, was distributed by Carl M. Iversen A.s., a Norwegian distributor and publisher, as well as music and electronics retailer, located in Oslo. The company acted as the EMI licensee in Norway until 1969. All of the Norwegian singles were released in picture sleeves. The picture sleeves of Norwegian singles were very often black and white with one additional color. Due to the uneven printing technique, different color variations emerged. Therefore, the picture sleeve of this issue could come in the magenta variation, and the rarer one like this copy, the orange color version. Including the reissues, this 45 RPM has four collectible variations. The back side of the picture sleeve contains the promotion of other EMI’s singles reading “10 Topper”. This original 1st print picture sleeve contains the typewriter font which was replaced with another font on the subsequent pressings. The front of the picture sleeve along with the band name and the single titles contains the catalog number “SD” 5958 using the Swedish prefix as oppose to the Norwegian one “ND”. Nevertheless, this copy was pressed in Norway, which could be read about on the 1st print red Odeon label. The labels not only have the large Odeon silver banner but also the company’s logo which was based on the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe (English: European Music Hall) located in Paris. On the repressing, the color of the label was changed from red to black. The runout groove contains the very early 1st matrix numbers: 7XST-309-1 / 7XST-310-1.
★
I grade the cover as Excellent Minus. It's extremely hard to find the picture sleeve of this issue in such a great condition as it usually has some significant wear. However, the picture sleeve of this copy doesn't have any splits, tears or writing, only having a very light hint of ring wear on the front along with some very light scuffing and creasing along with the edges. The vinyl is graded as Excellent Minus. It only has a few very light scuffs from the inner sleeve. The labels are almost in Near Mint Minus condition only having a few very light spindle marks that could be seen under a strong light source.
