Anthology 1 è una raccolta di incisioni del gruppo ed è il primo di una serie di tre volumi. È stato pubblicato nel novembre del 1995, ed include tracce che vanno dal 1958 al 1964, comprese alcune audizioni del fallito provino alla Decca. Antology 1 è una raccolta di rare e inedite registrazioni dei Beatles . Tra il materiale sul primo volume sono presenti registrazioni dei The Quarry Men (una band che è caratterizzata dagli adolescenti John Lennon, Paul McCartney e George Harrison), cinque canzoni da ascoltare, senza successo , dei Beatles per la Decca Records del 1 ° gennaio del 1962 ; tracce dal vivo da varie apparizioni televisive e versioni alternative di alcune prime canzoni dei Beatles. Nell'album è stata inoltre inclusa la canzone Free as a Bird, prodotta da Jeff Lynne, che praticamente è la prima vera nuova canzone dei Beatles prodotta a 25 anni di distanza.Anthology 1 è d'interesse storico per i fans dei Beatles, dato che contiene tra l'altro performance storiche di Stuart Sutcliffe e di Pete Best. Sutcliffe, il bassista originale della band, lasciò il posto e la fama a Paul McCartney. Di Best invece possiamo ascoltare le prestazioni, per le prove alla EMI, nelle tracce 10-12,15-19 e 21 del disco uno. La traccia 22, Love Me Do, è la versione originale della canzone con Best alla batteria, incisa quattro mesi prima di essere nuovamente registrata con Ringo Starr.
The Beatles " Anthology one ( 1 ) " is a collection of rare and unreleased Beatles recordings. Among the material on the first volume are recordings by The Quarry Men (a band that featured a teen-aged John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison); five songs from the Beatles' unsuccessful audition for Decca Records on January 1, 1962; live tracks from various television appearances; and alternate versions of several early Beatles songs." Anthology one ( 1 ) " also includes "Free As A Bird," the band's first new recording in 25 years. Written by the late John Lennon, the song was recorded in 1994 by the three surviving Beatles, using Lennon's lead vocal and piano track from a demo recorded in the late 1970s.
