Very first UK press of Beatles For Sale in STEREO
The matrix numbers on this copy are YEX 142-1 and YEX 143-1.
The perimeter text starts The Parlophone Co Ltd, there is Sold in U.K. subject… text below the yellow Parlophone and at 9 o’clock on the label it states Recording first published 1964 – on second presses from 1965 the perimeter text reads The Gramophone Co Ltd, the Sold in U.K. subject… text is still there but at 9 o’clock on the label it just reads p 1964
The original gatefold sleeve is not the best (and not the worst) I've seen. There is some laminate creasing, shelfwear, especially on the corners and edges, and there is a bit of tape on one edge (small tear) and at the top and bottom of the spine as the notoriously flimsy opening inside is slightly torn.
The original emitex inner is present and is creased (aren't they all) and, unfortunately, has splits on all 3 sides.
The record itself still has a nice shine and has lots of the light sleeve removal marks you'd expect for a record of this age. There is a more pronounced mark on side 2 though this doesn't look too worrying - you can just see it more. The last time I played it, which was some time ago, I noted that it played very well. I noted some crackle on both sides, mostly noticable between tracks and in quieter parts, but no skips or jumps. A proper clean may improve the audio.
Not the best copy of this album (and certainly not the worst) but, if you're looking at this, you'll know that first press stereo versions are harder to come by.
