The Beatles Singles 1962-1970
World Records/EMI – 1978
During the autumn of 1977, EMI’s mail order subsidiary, World Records, released a Box Set entitled The Beatles Collection, The Beatles Singles 1962-1970, consisting of 24 7” singles, from “Love Me Do” to “Back In The U.S.S.R.” The Set was available by mail order only, and not through the usual retail outlets.
The 24 singles were presented in green Picture Sleeves and were housed in a special gold embossed box. The Collection was heavily advertised in the British press.
Each of the records in the Collection was in a picture sleeve, green on one side, with a picture of the Beatles on the other side. However, there weren’t different pictures for each sleeve; instead, four pictures were used multiple times, each relating to the period in the Beatles career in which the single was released. There were, however, different photographs used for two unique discs in the set: one for “Back in the USSR / Twist and Shout”, and another for “Yesterday / I Should Have Known Better”. The Collection also included a four-page booklet with a brief history of the Beatles.
