I am the second owner of this box set. The original owner worked in a record store when this set was released in 1982. He purchased two sets at that time and stored them for over twenty years before he decided to sell them. This set had never been played before I purchased it.
I recently digitally recorded all the discs to High Resolution 24 bit 192kHz files, and can say the vinyls are all in superb condition. My normal procedure before recording vinyl is to clean it on my VPI record cleaning machine. The first step is to use a carbon fiber brush to gather and remove surface dust before using the VPI. But after using the carbon fiber brush, I discovered that there was barely any dust at all on these records! So I decided not to use the VPI machine as I felt it was unnecessary. These records are as clean as they were when they left the pressing plant in 1982.
Most have only been played one time to record. A couple discs were played one time previously, by me, just to check their condition when I first acquired the set. (I just can't remember which ones they were specifically) So, a couple discs were played twice, but most just once. They were played on a Clearaudio Concept turntable with an Audio Technica low output moving coil cartridge set to 1.7 grams tracking weight.
The box itself is in Excellent condition. It is not perfect, but the imperfections are minor. Please see the photos for details of the hardware as well.
