The Beatles 1964 Unused New Zealand Ticket

Only one in Existence!

The details on the actual ticket are:

ticket no. K26

in the Circle on Thursday the 25th (of June 1964)

6pm Show

in the (Auckland) Town Hall.

But what's so special about this, is that it comes still attached to the surround with it's original mailing envelope and that is date stamped, and is addressed to a Mr R Fausett, c/o Maori Affairs Dept , and is absolutely complete and in an untouched condition.

The History

Way back in the 80's & early nineties, I was living in Auckland, and was vocal in the Beatle club of NZ at the time for a while (we Protested at the Lives of John Lennon Book etc etc), and was helping to put a Beatles convention on at Avondale Racing Stadium (we got the bootleg Beatles in of course). During this time, I used to advertise for Beatle Peoples interest (and secretly their beatle records and memorabilia :) too, and was called out of the blue by this gentleman who started to reminisce about the beatles and early NZ in the 60's. Of course fascinated by this, I made the trek to the North Shore of AK and had tea with him and his wife, and with my then girlfriend too. After a while he told me of his bad luck in breaking his leg a day or two before the show, and being in hospital, couldn't go to see the Beatles even though he was lucky enough to have a ticket., and as an after thought said he couldn't even give it to any of his friends as he didn't see them in time!

And yes, you guessed it, it suddenly dawned on me to ask what happened to it..

"Oh, it's upstairs, I keep it in the back of a drawer. Would you like to see it?"

Priceless.

Originally we talked about displaying the ticket at the very soon upcoming convention but was apprehensive about it being stolen or lost even, and tbh it was probably me that was talking him out of it in the end (as I was still trying to get some of my stuff back from the previous ones). And actually now I come to think of it, he was a man of the cloth also, (not sure if he was a Rev, or whathaveyou), but he asked me as I was about to leave, how much did I think it was worth and how much did I have in my pockets!

To which I'm ashamed to say was only just shy of NZ$100 between the two of us and admitted it was worth much more even then. He sort of smiled but his wife said "go on, that'll be fine", to which we left bewildered and very happy.

I have shown a few people this thru the years , once put it tentatively up on EBay a few years back and then unbelievably misplaced it about 10 years ago.

Also included with the actual ticket, is the Big Red Beatle surround in cardboard with the now slightly rusting staple still holding the cloakroom ticket and an additional Courtesy card on top advising to check your tickets and date etc.

AND THERE'S MORE..

It also came with a Photo Card with the Beatles on one side and an apology exclaiming due to the unprecedented volume of applications, we regret we have been unable to issue tickets exactly as requested!! Classic. This has Kerridge Odeon written on it also, as does everything included here including the envelope which is date stamped 19th May 64.

This was of course just 4 or 5 weeks before the show which this ticket was for.

UNBELIEVABLE

It is how it came complete nearly fifty years ago. The staple has never been removed.

Obviously with the Maori connection there also, it could turn out to be a national heirloom treasure and a very important piece of Maori history directly associated with the Beatles, as apart from some photo's of the Beatles pressing noses with some traditional Maori and wearing huge tiki's round their necks at the airport upon arrival in NZ, there is very little to tie the two together.

This I believe is the missing piece.

Beatle Rarity Value

As a Pure Beatle rarity alone, there aren't many UNUSED Tickets ever to come on the market, especially from 1964. Obviously, if you had a Beatle Ticket in those days, it was like wfinding a ticket from Willy Wonker!

Hence, Unused original tickets are very scarce. Unused Original tickets complete in their original mailing envelopes are unique.

But with the Maori connection, there is no other.

As an interesting sidenote, The ACTUAL beatle ticket itself, never had “the beatles” or the year “1964” on it(as was a standard Kerridge Odeon ticket) so they almost immediately got lost, hence that is why you never see them for sale. I have seen around 5 used ticket stubs in my lifetime of looking in NZ and on Ebay and they nearly all had the owners writing on the back of the ticket saying beatles or 1964 beatles, so not to get lost thru the years!

Would much prefer cash pick up or delivery if near rather than lose this in the post.
