The Beatles Gold Stereo Please Please Me - 1st Pressing

The Beatles Please Please Me Gold Stereo Parlophone in a very collectable condition.

This was the THIRD pressing of the Stereo Please Please Me!.

Very little is known about this one and was only pressed for one very small run. So small in fact, I know of no other copy.

An unusual pressing in that the usual 1G/1R Stampers are actually 1A / 1R .. this pressing shouldn't really exist..

This "Dick James" Copy, was pressed AFTER the 2nd press "Northern Songs" Labels, as they were also 1G/1R.

As there were no 1R/1R copies pressed, (the 1R on side 1 was matched with 1G on side 2 on the second pressing machine), 1A is the next letter..

So the 1st pressing machine went 1G/1R, 1A/1R, then Stop. ALL other Stereo copies were then pressed on Machine 2 (using the 1G stamper on side 2), until the 2nd run of the 4th label (starting at 1GD/1P).

I also have a copy of the earlier 1G/1R Stampers on a Northern Songs which proves this theory.

So, if you want all first Gold Stereo PPM pressings you need a 1G/R, 1R/G and this one 1A/1R. There were no other stamper combinations.

All you need to know is known already, if you want to know more, please please read on..

These Stereo edition's were pressed on two machines at the same time, with the initial first mold (Stamper) being made from the individual first master (or Mother) pressing plates (1) of side 1 and 2 being split to the two machines, A and B.

Machine A got the original first Stamper pressing plate for side 1 and the second Stamper made from the side 2 first mother pressing plate. ( 1 G / 1 R )

Machine B got the original first Stamper pressing plate for side 2 and the second Stamper made from the side 1 first mother pressing plate. ( 1 R / 1 G )

Based on the premise of G.R.A.M.O.P.H.L.T.D and G being the first Stamper, and the 1 being made from the first Mother etc etc etc.

Well, only now with the power of the internet can one gather enough facts regarding these precious records about when and in which order they were pressed, and it seems nearly all early Dick James Gold Stereo's were pressed on Machine A (as they all have 1G/1R stampers), in fact finding one the other way round became a must for me (as well as a fascination :), as well as all other combinations which are just as important. This is because of the general consenses that there were only 300 Lp's pressed before they changed the Stamper Letter that was stamped on the run off groove again.

To be honest, I haven't looked at any earlier other artist's Parlophone releases in regards to Mother Stamper letters, but I know that the Please Please Me early stereo pressings were unique in having this split Mother, as all other beatle first pressing are generally known to be 1G/1G pressings. Even some Gold Mono's are known in this 1G/1G variation. Not Gold Stereo's.

YEX 94 - 1 A / YEX 95 - 1 R

This is the ONLY copy I've seen of a 1st Dick James Pressing Gold Stereo Parlophone Please Please Me with the 1A mother. It has a few marks and non-sounding needle marks, but isn't a played to death copy by anyones standards. I would quite happily place it at a very good condition + bordering on Ex-. It plays with no problems and is very clear and vibrant. The beautiful sheen is very present and you would have to put it to a light source to see any marks really. Please see pictures.

The sleeve is in a lovely clean Vg condition with a little wear. This of course is the first pressed E J Day Gold Sleeve with the McBean credit to the extreme right, which is totally legible, and would actually frame very well.

Inner is the made in England Patents applied for Emitex type in Ex- also.

A Valuable rare record but with such a rare unique Mother Stamper, it must be one of the very top Beatle records for desirability and collectability, and this is your one chance to invest in a sure thing. I also bet even the big collectors don't have this...

Current values for Ex /Nr Mint standard 1G 1R copies have been anywhere between £8,000 to £14,000 at the moment.

This is a bargain.

I shall be listing a 2nd,3rd, 4th, 5th stereo presses v. shortly, please see my other auctions
