In this auction:

• “HELP! 0riginal Motion Picture Soundtrack” LP by The Beatles

• This is Capitol Records SMAS-2386.

• This Beatles’ LP title was originally issued August 13, 1965.

• The record in this auction has purple Capitol labels with “Mfd. By Capitol” in the perimeter printing which indicates that it was produced from 1978 to 1983.

• However, this is a “DESIGNATED PROMO” COPY which means that it contains the commercial vinyl record (with no special labels or catalog number), but the COVER IS STAMPED AS PROMOTIONAL. So, most likely this LP was issued in 1978 at the beginning of the run of the purple Capitol label re-pressings of the Beatles’ catalog.

• The COVER is marked as a PROMOTIONAL ISSUE in the upper right corner of the front cover AND in the upper left corner of the rear cover with embossed gold foil printing that reads:

                                 PROPERTY OF CAPITOL RECORDS, INC.

  This album is on loan for PROMOTIONAL USES ONLY. Holder agrees to return it on demand.

• As you probably know, PROMOTIONAL ISSUES were produced in very limited (small) quantities and were made available only to the DJs at the Radio Stations for on-air play and to special people in the recording industry. They were NOT made available for purchase to the general public. This makes them VERY sought after by some collectors due to their rarity/limited quantities.

• The GATEFOLD COVER is in VERY NICE VG to WEAK VG+ CONDITION with minimal wear evident. Its primarily white cover is nice and clean, and there are small pushes on 3 corners. There are a couple of VERY, VERY, LIGHT and VERY THIN HAIRLINE cuts 6-8 inches long (as if made VERY LIGHTLY by an x-acto knife maybe when opening the cardboard mailing package from Capitol) on right side of the front cover near the opening and on the rear cover near the opening. They are SO LIGHT that they don’t even cut through the cover slicks and are NOT prominent as you can see in the images.

• It’s interesting to note that this PROMOTIONAL COVER has the catalog number MAS 2386 printed on the spine, which is the catalog number of the MONO pressing of this LP. (But Capitol issued only stereo pressings, not mono pressings, on the purple Capitol labels with their promotional-marked covers.)

• The VINYL is NEAR MINT.
