Original 1st US Stereo pressing Version 1 of The Beatles “Introducing The Beatles” released by Vee-Jay Records on January 10, 1964. Holy grail 1st print song titles “Column Back” Stereophonic cover containing the withdrawn tracks “Love Me Do” and “P.S. I Love You”. Without any exaggeration this is one of the rarest cover variations of “Introducing The Beatles” as it was produced very late in the album’s brief run. By the time the "Column Back" was ready, Vee-Jay was in disarray and faced a restraining order from Capitol Records, significantly limiting its production and distribution. We’ve included into this listing a unique original 33-page legal document under the title “Brief and Argument For Defendant-Apellant Vee Jay Records, Inc.” This rare booklet was made exclusively in the quantity of no more than 20 copies for the lawyers and their paralegals participating in the “Capitol Records, Inc. vs Vee Jay Records, Inc.” trial case over “The Beatles” music distribution rights that took place in the Court of Illinois, First District in 1964. On the 33-pages of this original legal booklet, the Vee Jay Records lawyers, Sidley, Austin, Burgess and Smith, list the important arguments which should have convinced the court to issue the injunctive relief and cancel the temporary injunction which was earlier granted in favor of Capitol Records and applied towards Vee Jay Records.   Going back to the “Column Back” cover, we’ve conducted a thorough inspection for its authenticity. Sharp and clear print, glossy front and back, “Honey” test as well as the ¼” flaps located inside, all of it has allowed us to state this cover variation is absolutely authentic. The front cover contains a sticker reading “This Record also available on Regular LP”. It’s hard to believe that in 1964 this was a random copy and no different from the other records. Based on the rubber ink stamp present on the sticker this copy was used a sampler in Dallas, Texas at the roadhouse record store located at 4356 Lovers Lane, 75225. The analogous rubber stamp located on the back cover turned out to be more readable which allowed us to conduct an investigation in relation to the company “Miracle Music, Inc.” which most likely owned the record store. Despite the fact that more than 50 years have already passed, this address can still be found on Google Maps, but based on the information we were able to acquire from the Dallas Central Appraisal District which we were referred to by the City Hall, this building no longer physically exists. There was still a chance to get some information through the local post office, but they only confirmed that this location wasn’t in their system. We also contacted the local UPS store and their system auto corrected the provided address to 4356 W Lovers Lane, but this location has a totally different ZIP code. Original true 1st print Stereophonic Vee-Jay Records black labels featuring the catalog number VJLP 1062 catalog number, a multicolor band, an oval "Vee-Jay" logo, a 2.75" deep groove pressing ring, and a "Stereo" banner at 12 o’clock. These Version 1 labels contain the withdrawn tracks “Love Me Do” and “P.S. I Love You”. The vinyl pressed in Owosso, Michigan at the American Record Pressing Co. plant containing the machine-stamped “ARP” factory identifier, “AudioMatrix” and the “S” suffix in the runout grooves on both sides as well as the pressing date “6-28-63” etched on Side 2. The full matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 – 63-3402-S A ARP AudioMatrix; Side 2 – 63-3403-S A ARP AudioMatrix 6-28-63. This rare copy comes with an original Vee-Jay Records "Other Significant Albums of Interest on Vee-Jay Records" inner sleeve with 25 adverts of other VJ releases on each side.

We grade this extremely rare original cover as Excellent Minus. It’s very clean and doesn’t have any splits, soiling, missing pieces, writing or residue, just some very light overall age shelf wear, light scuffing along the bottom edge as well as a few very light creases along the spine on the front and back. The rigid spine contains a fully readable text. The glossy vinyl is graded visually as Very Good Plus, closer to the strong Very Good side rather than Excellent Minus. It retains its shiny factory lacquer but has some very light non-feelable surface hairlines and marks as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve which is in Near Mint condition and doesn’t have any splits or tears. The glossy labels are very clean and in Excellent Minus condition, scuff- and wear-free, only having a few light spindle marks on both sides. The vinyl sounds amazing having a dynamic and punchy Stereo sound, with its playback being graded as somewhere between strong Very Good Plus and Excellent Minus, only having some very light occasional static which most likely will go away if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. The original “Capitol Records, Inc. vs Vee-Jay Records, Inc.” legal booklet is in stunning vintage condition and has been carefully stored in a private collection for many years.
