Description
UK 1963 issue of The Beatles 2nd LP "With The Beatles".
Research undertaken leads me to believe that this copy is a "first issue".
Various indicators confirm this:
The matrix"-1N" cuttings of the mono UK "With The Beatles" are reported to be different from subsequent versions (so-called "Loud Cut"), in that after they were issued, the EMI cutting engineers were requested to cut down on the bass, since early buyers complained of skipping needles due to mistracking.
The matrix numbers on side one (on the play-off section) are XEX 447 - 1N
The matrix numbers on side two are XEX 448 - 1N.
Side 2: Sleeve and label incorrectly spells track 3 as "YOU REALLY GOTTA HOLD ON ME"
Side 2: The publishing credit for "Money" says "Jobete Mus. NCB"
Tax Code "K" can be seen on the centre of the label on side one - "T" has been obliterated due to spindle marks over the years - please see photos.
The name "THE PARLOPHONE CO.LTD. is in capitol letters and appears on the outer rims of the labels and "Recording First Published 1963was added
The catalogue number is Parlophone PMC 1206.Presented in Mono format.
The albums outer cover - front bears the word "MONO" printed in "large" type.
The rear outer sleeve has a wrap around/round cut cover whereby the catalogue number of PMC 1206 is printed on the upper right corner.
First pressing sleeves were facilitated by two printers - Ernest J.Day and Co Ltd. and Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd - my copy is published by "Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd.Patents Pending PMC1206 PCS 3045 - please see photo's.

Appraisal of the albums condition:
The Outer Sleeve:
The albums laminated front sleeve is in good order, the spine is good.There is no writing, rips or tears.There are one or two surface creases and buffing marks consistent with age - nothing untoward (please see photos) these do not particularly affect the overall condition.
The rear sleeve has benefitted from the fold over laminate, however there is a degree of discolouration consistent with age whereby the rear outer cover has lost its white freshness - in all though it is very fit for purpose.
The album is still housed in its period inner sleeve. This is in very good condition. It is the "tracing rice paper - lined "Use Emitex" die cut sleeve, please see photo's.
The vinyl:
Still retains a very good glossy sheene to both sides. Both labels are good however there are "spindle marks" that are visible.(please see photo's)
A close visual inspection of Side One under bright lighting conditions reveals several visible surface marks and scratches, most noteworthy on tracks one,two and three nothing serious but visible - please see photo's as I have tried to illustrate the marks, some are a little lengthy in character, I have therefore played side one on three separate occasions and the audio reproduction is good - bearing in mind it is mono, pleasingly though, at no time did I detect any jumping,sticking or skipping notwithstanding the marks I have mentioned. Older vinyl seems to handle marks better than modern lightweight.
Similarly with Side two, there are several light/thin scratches and marks visible under bright lighting conditions, nothing serious though - again I have played this side on three separate occasions and there is no skipping, sticking or jumping. The audio reproduction is also good. Please see photos.
I should point out however, that one is able to hear the occasional crack and pop in particular on quitter sections of music and on intro's/play-off's on both sides - this is a characteristic of ageing vinyl with the added presence of hard to see dust and surface marks in some instances, the listing experience is not in my view spoilt. This album is 50+ years old!
