The Beatles "Let It Be" - Original 1970 Vinyl LP, Apple Export Copy PCS 7096 & PPCS 7096


For sale is an export edition of the Beatles final album, “Let It Be”. It features the late 1970 second pressing vinyl - YEX 773-3U & 774-3U - not the 2U/2U only found on the “red apple” Box Set. Importantly, the record is housed in an “export edition” album cover.


The export cover has the Parlophone logo and EMI/Gramophone Companies references in place of the usual red/green apple logo, and no reference whatsoever to Apple Records. On the spine, in addition to the album title, the export reference PPCS 7096 can be found. (See photographs for a comparison of the differences between this export cover and the normal red/green Apple version).


In addition, this particular laminate cover features flaps to the top and bottom edges on the reverse. Unusual, because by this time, Beatle album covers had long abandoned “flaps” - the last being “Sgt. Pepper” in 67. Nevertheless, the album carries a reference to Garrod and Lofthouse - the normal cover manufacturers - so I suspect it was manufactured elsewhere under license.


The condition of this cover I would mark as good to good+. The cover remains glossy and the laminate is holding on well - there is no peeling but a little lifting here and there. There is the odd crease (e.g. lower right) and the cover has a small 5cm split to the centre of the otherwise excellent spine. But, for something 51 years of age, it’s holding up remarkably well.


The record vinyl and labels seem to be good to very good, just the usual fine marks found on reasonably well looked after period vinyl, and visually I would also mark good+.


In addition, the album retains an original Apple inner sleeve, containing the full warning that Apple records are copyrighted etc. The glue has failed at the bottom of this inner sleeve, but it’s not split, and is otherwise in excellent condition. A replacement black, lined, sleeve is used to hold the record.
