Description

The Beatles, Let It Be: UK 1st Edition PXS Box Set.

The Beatles last studio album was initially released in the UK on May 8th 1970 and available as a box set until November of the same year. It cost £1 more than a normal album.
Included in the box set was a 164 page, 'behind the scenes' book, titled "Get Back", featuring exclusive images and dialogue from the studio sessions.
To top it off, the album contains some of The Beatles' most famous songs: "Let It Be", "Across The Universe", and "I, Me, Mine".
In short, this is a fantastic piece of music and cultural history that is a must have for any serious Beatles collector.

There are several features of the box set which can be used to identify it as an authentic first edition:

  • Garrod & Lofthouse laminated sleeve with a red apple logo on the rear.
  • Matrix numbers YEX 773-2U, YEX 774-2U stamped in the run out groove of side 1 and side 2, respectively.
  • 164 page book with the title, "Get Back", printed on the spine.
  • Dark Green Apple labels with MfD. in U.K. printed on both sides.
  • Internal inner and outer tray of the box set make from non-laminated cardboard.

I try to give an honest appraisal of any record I sell. The condition of this album is as follows:

Record Sleeve: Excellent

The original sleeve is in fantastic condition.
As it has been kept within the outer box it shows minimal storage wear; the corners are sharp and the spine is crisp.
The colours are sharp with no signs of discolouration.
The laminate has no ripples and there are no signs or ring wear.
The only point to note is a small crease in the top right hand corner.

Disc: Excellent

The record looks and sounds superb.
The playback is crisp, clear, with superb clarity, and great channel separation.
There is very little background noise and no distortion.
Visually the record retains the original mirror-like gloss sheen.
Both sides have one or two surface scuffs which can be picked up in the light but which cannot be felt or heard.
The labels are clean with minimal spindle wear and no writing.

Box and Tray: Very Good +

Whilst it looks great, the box is notoriously difficult to use and often gets ripped by over-eager music enthusiasts trying to get the album out.
This copy has fortunately managed to survive in one piece.
The corners of the outer box show signs of storage wear.
Otherwise there no obvious signs of wear to the outer box, the colours are bright and it still retains a mirror-like gloss (see my hand in the picture of the rear).
The two tabs on the outer tray are heavily creased but in tact.
The inner tray has been replaced by a modern equivalent to the original.
(Apologies for any confusion caused here).

Book: Very Good +

The book is absolutely fantastic. I would be willing to purchase it as a stand alone item as the insight into the dynamic of the Beatles' studio sessions.
This copy is in great shape.
The corners and spine are sharp and the front and rear covers bright.
As is often the case a few pages have come unstuck. They are all still present, though, and in the correct order.

Inner Sleeve: Excellent

The white 'patent pending' inner sleeve is almost perfect.
There is no discolouration or staining.
Only thing to note is creasing where the record has been sat.
Also included is an audiophile quality anti-static inner sleeve that the record is kept within.

Overall a fantastic copy of a very rare and extremely sort after album. This is your chance to get a copy.
