Description
The Beatles: Love Me Do / P.S. I Love You, Original red label 1st pressing. Catalogue number 45-R 4949.
The main differentiator between this version of the red label issue, compared to the other original 1962 versions, is the absence of the 'MADE IN GT. BRITAIN' text under the Parlophone logo on the label. Two other original 1962 red label versions exist with this text on the label under the Parlophone logo on the label. All are considered to be first pressings released on or after 5th 0ctober 1962, but this the rarer of the releases.
The version of the song Love Me Do on this record was recorded on Tuesday 4th September 1962 at Abbey Road Studios for their first single on Parlophone. This version features Ringo Starr on drums and does not contain any tambourine playing. It can also be identified by the presence of the matrix number 7XCE 17144-1N in the runout.
I also have a full set of all 22 original 1st pressing Beatles 7" singles for sale on eBay, which includes both Red Label copies of Love Me Do and Please Please Me, as well as all the other singles in their correct vintage original company sleeves (or picture sleeve in the case of Strawberry Fields Forever / Penny Lane). I have also listed a complete set of all 13 original 1st pressing Beatles EPs.
