Description
The Beatles - The Magical Mystery Tour LP MAL 2835 (Capitol, USA, 1967)
Original U.S. Mono Issue, with gatefold sleeve and booklet.
Rainbow rimmed Capitol Labels with BMI Credits.
Matrices (handwritten) MAL V - 1-2835-F92 MALV-2-2835-F9. (V denotes upside down triangle). Triangle Symbol in runout denotes that this is a Scranton pressing.
Condition (I Grade NM / EX / VG+ / VG / VG- / G / F)
Sleeve - VG- Not in greatest shape. The top seams have split fully. Musty marks on the inside. Ringwear on back. The booklet, as is quite often, has come apart from the inside - leaving pages 1, 2, 23, 24 still attached, Some slight discoloration and cornerwear to the booklet - but no writing or serious damage. The pasted sleeve on the front has some marks and abrasions and is chipped at the bottom. Spine still legible but dog eared at top, and paper is crumbling at the bottom.
Vinyl - VG- The record has a slight warp. Lots of signs of heavy play back in the day - quite a lot of scratches, scuffs and marks. The record also doesn't seem to be the best pressed, either (a bit of non sounding grit - some indentations in the vinyl). Despite some distortion (from groovewear), rasp, and light crackle - it's quite a pleasant, involving listen : nice, concentrated presence and good bass throughout. Some deep trackmarks cause pops and noise during 'Hello Goodbye' - but my turntable (A Project Essential) plays through it without any problems, and that's the only really borderline serious issue with playback. I would also suggest the record be thoroughly cleaned if you have the tools at your disposal.
Who wants this? Condition wise, this isn't going to win any prizes - but at least it's all here, just about in acceptable condition. The booklet (often torn or missing) could be reaffixed if you are practically minded. Sonically, though not the best copy, the record still has some life in it, too. Obviously, if you want an Original Mono MMT - this is the pressing to get - and depending on budget, this might be the copy you are looking for, at least to tide you over until a better one comes along.
