Description

An original 1st press of MMT on the UK Parlophone label from 1976. Matrix 1/1 - very 1st cut. Stampers 1G/1R - placing this copy from within the 1st 1,000 copies ever pressed..how's that for provenance? Please note that the perimeter text on the labels mentions "EMI" and NOT "All Rights.."..this is indicative of a 1976 copy. The vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover with interior booklet/photo pages. Also included is the original blue-text EMI inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) Blimey, what a sweet looking slab of vinyl. This copy is clearly very low-mileage and has seen only the lightest use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of very light marks - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback without reservation. Woah! I've never really heard MMT on a '76 copy that's blown me away. But then I listened to this copy and my antennae were straight up!! This copy is an absolute belter... Clearly the preservation levels are unrivalled, but I'm thinking that those early stampers must be helping too. The audio delivered has super clarity and allows you to hear deep into the mix. Interference..? Pah! Nothing..Nada.. not a whisper...This is as clean as is humanly possible to go. I'll do my usual catch-all..you might detect a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. But to all intents and purposes..FINAL UPGRADE.
Cover (Ex/Ex+) So, the original owner of this LP was clearly one fastidious individual. The exterior of this Lp is unlike any other vintage Lp I've seen. The only way to describe it is ...to call it "archived". If you pick it up and look at it you'll swear it's a later reissue..but it isn't, this is the '76 original. The front and back are absolutely pristine. And by that I mean they show no wear at all, they are smooth to the touch, the colours are perfectly vivid, and there's barely even a single crease. The interior is impressive too because, for starters, the booklet is fully intact and stapled in place. Now, that alone is incredibly unusual...on nearly all examples this has broken away. The booklet pages are all intact and have not been heavily thumbed. The left panel is still white and doesn't seem to have aged much at all. The one deviation stopping this cover getting a full Ex+ is the right hand rear panel. There's a bit of foxing exhibiting there, but nothing too bad and it's the back panel after all. Oh, and a tiny "9" written in the top right corner too. Edge wear is pretty much non-existent and the openings still sharp. The spine is 100% intact and overall the cover retains perfect rigidity. A bit of a one-off in my opinion...
Inner (Ex) Minimal ageing. No splits or markings.
