Description

An original 1st press of MMT on USA Capitol from 1967. Matrix F9/F9. Rainbow rim Capitol labels without the 'Subsidiary' text. Etching "IAM" - the identifier of the Scranton factory. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original solid card cover with EMI import gold sticker in the top right. In the UK this title was originally released in a double ep format - we didn't get the LP format till much later. If you wanted an Lp format copy in '67 you had to import it. You can get 'stereo' 1st copies - but the audio die-hard will probably not be satisfied until they land an 'untinkered' mono pressing. The cover includes the internal 24 page booklet. There's even the original plain white inner sleeve from the time. So, we're 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing seemingly heavy or that troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations. It doesn't take long to figure out why these original mono copies are so sought after. For Beatles audio this is the original mix unfettered and untinkered with. The audio quality is absolutely superb. Much of this release has very fussy intricate numbers. Many copies - even good looking ones will likely show signs of use by this period in time. So, when you get to witness a truly top copy in this mono format, from the period, you can see what all the fuss is about. In the UK we had two crumby eps which are notoriously difficult to find playing well. But these original mono LP copies are highly addictive if you need that true to '67 original mix - clean. Very little background in evidence here. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. Maybe a few crackles in STRAWBERRYF - no surprises...it's usually everyone's favourite! Nothing invasive - it just won't play as clean as the other tracks. All I could detect was a solitary tick during 'MOTHER'. Other than that it delivers a super rendition. Love it.
Cover (Vg) Not up to the standard of the vinyl - but hey the original USA covers are an absolute bugger to find in top level. This example is very respectable. Firstly, the front and rear are nice and clean without the surface wear you often find wit this title - which means the aesthetic is preserved very nicely. Gold sticker top right on the front - looks real neat. The interior looks good, but expect some light ageing in places [difficult to avoid entirely]. The booklet pages are all there - but the main section of the booklet has detached on one piece [which is very common]. A bit of edge wear in places, but relatively minor and much less than you typically find on this title. The spine is in excellent order with text 99% legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture.
Inner (Vg) A bit aged. NO splits.
