Here is a RARE BEATLES LP, for sure!

This LP is Capitol Records T 2047.

This is a MONO (monaural) PRESSING.
-
This is a FIRST U.S. MONO PRESSING of this LP by CAPITOL RECORDS.

We KNOW that this is a FIRST PRESSING, because there are NO BMI or ASCAP CREDITS PRINTED ON THE LABELS. Only the composers and play times are printed after the title of each cut.

FIRST MONAURAL PRESSINGS of “Meet The Beatles” were issued January 20, 1964.

According to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records, 6th Edition by Perry Cox and Frank Daniels (page 133):
“This is the most desirable mono label variation because it is the first and rarest mono label.”

Also according to the Price Guide for the Beatles American Records, 6th Edition (page 133):
“Exact press runs are not known, but it is speculated that about 20,000 copies were manufactured with this label.”

Only East Coast labels have been confirmed to be without the BMI or ASCAP publishing credits on the labels.

The VINYL in this auction was PRESSED at CAPITOL’S SCRANTON PLANT. We know this because it has that plant’s triangle-shaped symbol “△” pressed into the trail-off vinyl.

The COVER is the proper/correct Capitol-marked cover for this pressing. We know this because the front cover slick has “BEATLES” in dark brown, and the rear cover slick does NOT have “Produced by George Martin” printed on the rear at the bottom of the liner notes. Furthermore, this cover has the number “2” printed on the rear slick in the lower right corner which identifies this cover as also having been produced at Capitol’s Scranton Pressing Plant. Therefore, the SOURCE of BOTH the VINYL and the COVER is CAPITOL’S SCRANTON PRESSING PLANT.

The COVER is in VERY STRONG VG+ to NEAR MINT MINUS (NM-) CONDITION and STILL in its ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAP. The shrink wrap seems to be the type used on earlier LP issues, because it is heavier (or thicker) than later-used shrink wrap There are 3 very small “dings” on the edge of the cover on the opening to the right of Ringo’s head. There are tiny “pushes” on 3 corners: at the top and bottom of the spine and at the top right corner. The shrink wrap has a small 3-inch split on the rear under the photo of The Beatles. There is an original orange circular price sticker on the rear shrink wrap at the top left corner and some very light aging/“foxing” on the rear cover near the opening.

The VINYL is in VERY STRONG VG CONDITION with a number of very light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs. (None are “feel-able”.) The VINYL HAS LOTS OF GLOSS. I played this LP on my Technics turntable tracking at ½ gram. There are NO SKIPS, and it plays with very minimal audio distractions (like “pops” and “clicks”, etc.)

A Blue Capitol Records paper inner sleeve in NEAR MINT CONDITION with NO SPLITS is also included.
REMEMBER: THIS IS A FIRST MONO PRESSING of “MEET THE BEATLES” and is QUITE TOUGH TO FIND these days in ANY CONDITION. After all, how many of the estimated 20,000 that were pressed in late 1963 and early 1964 are still around now in 2022?
IT’S A RARE 1964 FIRST MONO PRESSING of “MEET THE BEATLES” that NO BEATLES VINYL COLLECTION SHOULD BE WITHOUT!
