In this auction:

• “MEET THE BEATLES” LP by The Beatles

• This LP is Capitol Records ST 2047.

• This is a MONO (Monaural) LP.

• The Cover is a Capitol-marked cover with “Capitol” on the front cover, rear cover and spine, and the Vinyl has black Capitol labels with perimeter color bands.

• The COVER in this auction came from Capitol Records’ Scranton plant. This is based on the number “2” printed on the rear cover at lower right.

• This VINYL was most likely pressed at Capitol Records’ Scranton plant. There is no plant identification symbol in the trail-off, which indicates that it is a Scranton pressing.

• So, this Scranton vinyl comes in a Scranton cover.

• This MONO label variation has ALL songs on Side 1 and Track 5 on Side 2 (“I Wanna Be Your Man”) credited to BMI. The remaining 5 songs on Side 2 are credited to ASCAP.

• This LABEL VARIATION IS UNDOCUMENTED by Perry Cox & Frank Daniels in their Price Guide for the Beatles American Records, 6th Ed. and by Bruce Spizerin his book, The Beatles Story On Capitol Records, Part Two: The Albums.

• Since this label is undocumented, I am unable to provide information regarding which pressing it may be, and I am unable to confirm which MONO cover the vinyl should have (“BEATLES” in brown, tan or dark olive green and with or without the George Martin credit). The COVER in this auction has “BEATLES” in BROWN PRINT on the front cover, and it DOES HAVE the George Martin production credit printed at the bottom of the linear notes on the rear cover.

• In terms of CONDITION, the COVER is graded NEAR MINT and STILL in its ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAP. The shrink wrap has “breathe holes”. There are 4 tiny staple holes near the top left corner where an original price tag was probably attached. There is a little bit of wear on the edge at the opening and on the corner at the bottom of the opening. The corner at the base of the spine has a tiny “push” and a little bit of wear where the shrink has worn through.

  The shrink wrap on the front has 3 tiny to small tears or “snags”, one under John’s head, another at the bottom in the center and the tiny one slightly above the previous one. The shrink wrap has a 6-inch split on the bottom edge from the center to the opening. The shrink on the rear has an 11-inch vertical tear about 6 inches in from the opening. (I applied a very small piece of clear tape to the shrink wrap at the bottom end of the tear to prevent it from progressing the additional inch to the bottom.)

• The VINYL is VERY STRONG VG to VG+ CONDITION. There are some very light surface hairlines/scuffs (none are at all “feel-able”). The vinyl has LOTS of GLOSS.

• This LP comes with what I believe to be its correct BLUE CAPITOL RECORDS INNER PAPER SLEEVE. The inner sleeve has some tattering at the top opening opening and a 3-inch split at the center of the bottom.

How cool would it be to have this UNDOCUMENTED COPY of THE BEATLES’ FIRST U.S. LP on CAPITOL RECORDS in your collection? Way cool, for sure!

These grades are Poor (P), Fair (F), Good Minus (G-), Good (G), Good+ (G+), Very Good Minus (VG-), Very Good (VG), Very Good+ (VG+), Near Mint Minus or Very Good++ (NM- or VG++), Near Mint (NM), Mint Minus (M-), and Mint (M or MT) to VISUALLY GRADE this LP, so please know the descriptions of these grades before bidding. A fellow Ebay member and Beatles collector contacted me and informed me that this LP is probably a CONTRACT PRESSING where, due to high demand for the LP,  Capitol Records contracted with other record companies to press copies of "Meet The Beatles" for Capitol. Decca produced copies, but I was told that this is probably a Columbia Pressing (or possibly RCA) due to the large pressing ring.
