Description
A lovely copy of The Beatles 1967 masterpeice Sgt. Pepper on heavyweight vinyl. This is a rarer early stereo pressing on the one boxed silver Parlophone label which dates the record to between 1970-2. It comes in a Garrod and Lofthouse flipback gatefold sleeve in beautiful condition.
Cover: this early stereo flipback cover is in beautiful EX+ condition. The front and inner covers are almost flawless with a little more wear visible on the back. The inner cover has two very slight opening marks near George's button and Paul's knee (see pic). The back cover has a little ringwear and two light creases. There are absolutely no tears, staines or writing. This cover is remarkably bold and clean for a 50 year old record.
Labels: are in a strong EX condition. They are bold and clear with no writing or pen marks. Very light spindlewear and the clean nature of the labels show that this record has been played sparingly and handled carefully.
Vinyl: this record is on beautiful black heavyweight vinyl and is in EX condition overall. It retains a strong glossy shine, has no deep scratches and is not warped at all. There are only a couple of light hairline marks, a handful of very light needle marks and minor sleeve removal marks to each side when viewed under strong unshaded electric light. Side one is in excellent condition with side two being excellent plus.
Audio: This record plays with astonishing clarity and richness and is a true joy to listen to.
The record's audio is graded conservatively at a strong EX overall. There are no noticeable clicks, pops or hiss and absolutely no sticks or repeats. Louder sections are undistorted and well balanced.
On side one it plays close to Near Mint on many of the tracks with only the very quiet parts of 'She' s Leaving Home' and lead ins to songs like 'Sgt. Pepper's...' and 'Lucy' containing any surface noise. Even then it is very minor and I'd grade EX+.
Surface noise is a little more pronounced on the quieter parts of track 1 and 2 of side two but is still minor. From 'Lovely Rita' to the end the record often plays in close to near mint quality and 'Day in the Life' is astonishing. I'd grade side 2 an EX.
This is a lovely copy of the original stereo mix at a fraction of the price of a 1st pressing.
Mothers and stampers:
(side one) YEX 637-1 2-GLM
(side two) YEX 638-1 4-GLM
Comes with a softer inner sleeve to preserve the record. Also comes with the original plain paper G and L inner sleeve in VG condition.
I use strict Record Collector grading on all my records.
