Artist :  THE BEATLES

LP Title :  Please Please Me

Label :  Parlophone / PMC 1202 / 1963 / MONO

Matrix Numbers :  XEX 421-1N [mother: 1 ][stamper: L ]  / XEX 422-1N [mother: 1 ][stamper: GG ]

Notes :  Original and very early 1st Pressing with black & gold Parlophone labels containing Dick James song credits, pressed from the very first mother plates.  The text around the label rims reads 'The Parlophone Co. Ltd.' in lower case, an 'M T' tax code is embossed on the side-1 label, Ernest J. Day front laminated flipback sleeve with Angus McBean photo credit to the far right of the bottom corner, large 'Mono' text in top corner, early Emitex lined inner sleeve with slightly bolder 'Patents Applied for' and 'Made in Great Britain' text than later inner sleeves.

Condition :  We have played the entire album through and it sounds EX!  There is some light crackling at the beginning of each side and a few tiny ticks in places, but certainly no major clicks or pops etc.  The heavy duty vinyl does have a number of hairline marks and one heavier mark on each side [see photo #12, which shows the most noticeable mark on side-2], however these do not detract from the overall sound.  There is minimal evidence of static in the silence between songs and a further few spots of static elsewhere, but all-in-all it gives off a lovely warm mono sound, really very sharp with some minor signs of distortion during louder moments.  At worse an EX, at best an NM- sounding disc!

The labels are clean and unworn, there is a very light scratch to the side-1 label [see photo #1, just under 'PMC' text on right].  The original Emitex inner sleeve has some corner creasing and wear with age fading also.

The outer sleeve has rubbing, wear and dings to the corners as well as a number of crease lines to the laminate, some on the edges and some to the corners - please see our photos from different angles.  There are a few small spots of laminate loss on the top and bottom edges, the spine is relatively unworn and all text is clear and readable.  There is a small inky smudge to the front of the sleeve [see photo #3, approx 2" above John's shoulder], it appears that this is underneath the laminate and may be due to a fault during the production process.

The matt surface to the rear of the sleeve has some marking from handling and storage, there is a little 1cm biro mark near to the Emitex logo.  The flipback joints have some creases, the right corner of the bottom flipback is folded over and the right top flipback has been partially torn off.

A great sounding copy of this classic Beatles debut LP!
