Description

Matrix or dead wax reads- (YEX 94‑4): A 1970s reissue. Most likely pressed in 1976. The "4" indicates the 4th cut from the original master. This vinyl was issued on the black/silver Parlophone label as part of EMI’s reissue program. By the time of the -4 cut, Parlophone was using the black label with silver/white text (the “two‑box EMI” design introduced in 1969). Catalog Number: PCS 3042 → Stereo edition of Please Please Me. Matrix Number: YEX 94‑4 (side one) → Indicates the fourth cut of the stereo master. The YEX 94‑4 / PCS 3042 pressing of Please Please Me is a UK stereo reissue from the late 1970s, most commonly dated to around 1976–1979. A Please Please Me UK stereo LP with YEX 94‑4 / PCS 3042 is a 1970s Parlophone reissue on the black/silver label, not a 1963 first pressing. It’s collectible as a vintage UK cut, but its value is modest compared to the black/gold originals. Likely a standard mid‑70s sleeve, not the Ernest J. Day originals. Later cuts like -4 are known for cleaner mastering compared to the earliest -1/-2 stampers, though collectors prize the originals more for historical value. By the time of -4 cuts, the record was typically on the black Parlophone label with silver/white text (the “two‑box EMI” style used in the 1970s). A true rare early re-issue of the original Stereo release. Stereo was not the most popular format in 1963. Most records in 1963 were in Mono. The American Lp called "Introducing the Beatles," on VeeJay records is almost impossible to find in the true stereo format. VeeJay had the original publishing and distribution rights to the Please Please Me UK vinyl. VeeJay released this in January 1964 in direct competition to the American "meet the Beatles" vinyl on Capitol records. Capitol got a court injunction to stop VeeJay from selling their version of Please Please Me. The Capitol release of the original 1963 UK Please Please Me was finally released on Capitol records on March 22, 1965. This vinyl released was issue in 1976 in the UK.
