THE BEATLES "PLATINUM COLLECTION" CAPITOL ALBUMS BOX SET (1984)
According to Perry Cox this is one of the rarest Beatles box sets ever issued. It was issued in very small numbers to promote the launch of Capitol’s Data Systems Division, and was NEVER for sale commercially. It was made at the then Cheif Executive of EMI's request to be given to Capitol executives, close company associates and his best clients only, in celebration of Capitol Records' doomed foray into the 5-1/2" computer floppy disk software business. This venture proved to be a failure for Capitol, and Capitol-made discs are not easy to find.
The set was originally issued with 18 of the Beatles reissue stock domestic albums - although sealed copies verify that the LP count varied from 16-18! It contains the Capitol/Apple stereo records chronologically from Meet The Beatles to Hey Jude. It is believed that less than 1,000 of these LP boxes were assembled.
The most common LPs to be excluded from the assembled boxes were: A Hard Day's Night, The Beatles' Story and Let It Be. This box has The Beatles' Story and Let It Be. As a bonus, a SEALED copy of A Hard Day's Night (that wasn't in the boxed set) is included as well for a total of 19 ALBUMS!!! (See the photos for the condition of the silver outer box.)
The sturdy outer record slipcase is silver with black print stating "Compliments of Capitol Data Systems a Division of Capitol Records." The labels for this reissue are the purple Capitol label, the new black label OR the Apple label. The box is 12.75" x 12.5" x 3.12". This box rarely appears on the collectors market.
