Please, Please Me The Beatles
Stereo

Yellow Parlophone Label
First Portuguese Pressing
This is a rare record and quite a collector's item, as it is for Portugal and a First Pressing for that country in 1978. Why much later than 1963, when Please, Please Me was released in the UK, the USA and most other European countries? Read on...

This record has barely any signs of play, no spindle marks, and just odd, feint hairlines, too few to even notice, even under a bright light. Clearly this has been played, but in Excellent condition.

The vinyl is very heavy. The matrices are:
Side One: YEX 94-2  Side Two: YEX 95-3.
There aren't any other markings, as per original UK pressings, with Mothers and Stampers.
So, back to Portugal and the conundrum of a First Press for The Beatles, for Please, Please Me, in 1978. LPs by international artists weren't pressed in the country at all until after 1974, which was the year of the, so called, 'Carnation Revolution', which was a military coup that overthrew the authoritarian Estado Novo government on 25 April 1974 in Lisbon, producing major social, economic, territorial, demographic, and cultural change.

Up until then the only LPs pressed in the country were indigenous Portuguese, and international music was confined to singles and EPs only. Oddly, under the authoritarian regime imports of international LPs were available, and according to reports, were extremely cheap, compared to the taxes that were to follow for home grown presses. This is pressed, under licence, and thus the first year (1978) of the first Beatles LP in Portugal.
