Description

The Beatles - Please Please Me
Here is an extremely rare opportunity to purchase one of the most desirable of all Beatles LPs.
Please Please Me was released on the 23rd of March, 1963. The Stereo version was not available until 6 weeks later on the 26th of April. First pressings, such as that being sold here, were only available via mail order.
The scarcity of the Black & Gold stereo copies is due to several factors. The first being that the majority of hi-fi systems owned by the Beatles' teenage audience in 1963 were mono aural, thus the demand for stereo 'pop' records was extremely low. Secondly, within weeks of the release of the stereo copies of Please Please Me, EMI made the decision to change the design of the Parlophone label to the iconic black and yellow version. The exact number that remain is currently unknown.
The vinyl has the 1st variation labels which credit Dick James as the publisher for the titles A1, A2, A6, A7, B4 & B5.
The sleeve is the correct first variant front-side laminated Ernest J. Day sleeve with Angus McBean photo credit position in the bottom right hand corner on the front of the sleeve and 'cut-out' flip-backs to the reverse.
Also included is the original heavy paper polythene lined EMItex die-cut inner sleeve.

Serial number: PCS 3046
Matrix number: YEX 94 - 1 / YEX 95 - 1
Stamper codes: 1 G / 1 R
Tax Codes: ZMT
Vinyl Weight: 169g

Condition:

Vinyl: VERY GOOD +
Labels: VERY GOOD +
The labels are bright, clean and without writing. There are only a handful of light spindle marks to either side and very slight rubbing around the spindle hole of side 2.
Visual: VERY GOOD
The vinyl retains deep gloss playing surfaces. Several surface marks from stylus skating are visible in bright daylight. A single, short feel-able mark is present across 'Love Me Do'. Under the glare of a halogen desk lamp a number of wispy hairline marks are visible. By no means the best example left in existence but certainly a long way from being the worst.
Sound Quality: EXCELLENT -
Despite the visual condition, the record sounds great. Take a listen for yourself:
Please note: the eBay app does not support playback. Please use the internet site to enjoy the audio clips.
Side 1:

Side 2:

As can be heard from the recordings, other than several light pops at the start of 'Love Me Do' the audio is a strong EX. There are quiet lead-ins to both sides. It is quiet in between tracks. There is great channel separation. The sound has superb clarity and distinction. A thoroughly enjoyable listen throughout.
Sleeve: VERY GOOD +
The original sleeve looks fantastic. The front retains the original lustre. The cover art is vibrant with bright colours. The rear is clean with only subtle signs of discolouration along the opening edge. As is often the case, there is a small section of the bottom flip-back missing. All four corners have subtle softening, the worst being the top left hand corner. The top, bottom and opening edges along with the spine all show minor storage wear.
Inner Sleeve: VERY GOOD +
The original inner sleeve is in great condition. It is very clean, with just subtle discolouration and minimal creasing. The vinyl is housed inside an audiophile quality, anti-static inner sleeve to help protect and preserve the record.

The record will be sent via an insured courier in a padded vinyl mailer.
