Please Please Me - the first album by The Beatles.
DECCA Contract Pressing
This is a fourth pressing from the early days of The Beatles when it was charting for the first time (and holding the number 1 spot for a long time!). Hence it has no "Sold in the UK..." text. When the demand became too much, in late 1963, Decca were asked by EMI to help with the pressing of the album. By this time "With The Beatles" was out and charting well, so Decca contract presses are fairly common on that disc, but by then Please Please Me had already been bought by most fans, so the Decca press is much scarcer on this title!
This album has obviously been played a fair amount, and there's the usual distortion present throughout the disc (practically every copy of this disc has this distortion as it was usually played to death!), particularly at the beginning of side 1 for the first half of the first track, and on the last track on each side (which, again, is how nearly all the surviving copies are!). So, it's not a mint copy. That said, I've played it through and it played well, no skips or jumps or other problems, and I've heard discs with a lot worse distortion than this one. There are numerous scratches on side 1 (plus a few smaller ones on side 2) but it plays better than it looks! Many of these scratches are heard as clicks, as you'd expect - hence side 1 is noisier than side 2 which is in better condition. Please check out the sound sample for the first and last tracks on each side! Remember, though, this is a mono disc, so may sound slightly worse if you play it on a stereo deck.
The inner sleeve appears to be contemporary but isn't the correct one for this issue, and the outer sleeve, while being complete, has been taped along the edges of the flaps, and has torn along the edge of the flaps (hence the taping!) - hence the grading of Fair-Good. It is a good presentable example though, especially from the front, and you can always replace it with a standard 4th pressing sleeve if you feel the need.
