Description

Rare 1963 The Beatles "Please Please Me" LP - MONO 1st Edition.
Let me 1st state that I am no expert in LP's, my dad was having a clear out and asked if any of the old records were worth anything, a quick google later and this is the only one worth selling! I believe they details below indicate it is a first edition (but I am no expert!)
Here is a breakdown of the item.
Front of Sleeve
Looks pretty good overall, all the corners show signs of wear (it is over 50 years old!) it appears to have been kept in a clear plastic bag all its life. Photo credit on the bottom corner is Angus McBean
Rear of Sleeve
The top seam has come unstuck and there appears to be some pen marks, mainly over the main chunk of small text in the middle of the cover, Printed and Made by Ernest J Day & Co Ltd London
Spine
Reads "Please Please Me - The Beatles"
Inner Bag
Its an "Emitex" bag, that has seen better days (see photos), there are rips on both sides, none of the paper appears too be missing, the paper is just folded up inside itself (I have just unfolded it all)
LP Side 1
Matrix Numbers XEX 421-1N Cat PMC 1202 Black and Gold Label Credits "Dick James Mus. Co." for 4 tracks Made in Great Britain It looks like the number 1 is printed where you would expect the "Mother Number" (9'oclock) and the letter "T" is at 3'oclock to denote a value of "9" for the stamper
LP Side 2

Co." for 2 tracks Made in Great Britain It looks like the number 1 is printed where you would expect the "Mother Number" (9'oclock) and the letter "GR" is at 3'oclock to denote a value of "12" for the stamper
The LP is sold as seen, there are some scratches and marks on both sides of the LP, I have no idea if they affect the playback as I don't know anyone with a record player, my parents haven't had a record player for the last 20 years, and I would bet it hasn't been played in the last 40 years as I don't recall us playing LP's on the stereo when I was growing up! (GOOD NEWS - wife reminded me we had an old mini hifi in the garage, BAD NEWS - record wouldn't play at correct speed, either too slow or too fast!)
I did however try and play the LP (at a too slow speed) and it appeared to have no problems going over the worst of the scratches/marks)
Any questions please ask and I will try and answer, if you are interested in better quality photos of anything I can take more pictures with my DSLR which would probably capture the scratches/marks better than my iPhone, just ask.
I have no idea yet what the best way to package this when it comes to sending it, I will need to do some research, but if it goes for decent money I will endeavour to sent it so it has a decent level of cover, you may even get some extra LP's, as maybe I will sandwich the LP in-between some more LP's to provide more protection!
