Description
An original 4th press of PPM in the UK on Parlophone. Matrix 1N/1N. Tax code - MKT. This pressing would have been available in the shops SUMMER 1963 as BEATLEMANIA was in full swing. There's NO 'sold in the UK' statement, but THERE IS 'recording 1st pub' - this equates to 4th press/issue. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Garrod cover. We also have the original Emitex inner sleeve with 'patents pending'. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In truly super condition and has only seen light use. A close inspection reveals just a few light marks per side, and one superficial trail - and one very small feelable mark [detailed below]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with just one deviation. This is 1963 and playback is of a very very high standard indeed - one that totally belies its relative age. Just a warm clean delivery of some terrific audio. In fact, I would go as far as saying this might be the best rendition of PPM I've witnessed - it really is that good. Intros and inbetweens are totally quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. This is difficult to find on any copy - but remember....this is BEATLES...this is a summer 1963 copy. That is an EXTREMELY unusual find. Anything detrimental...>>? Well, all I could detect were a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. And a small mark [mentioned above] causes a couple of clicks and one pop between tracks 6&7 [side 1]. But here's the great news. This occurs in the gap between tracks 6 & 7 and doesn't seem to hit the audio at all. I mean - how lucky is that! [just to reiterate the fault is only audible BETWEEN tracks - NOT in track] CLEAN - consistently....Amazingly clean - I can guarantee you that you'll never ever witness better levels of clarity and resolution from PPM. It has that warmth of a live recording - the presence of actually being in the room. All tracks, no matter how low-key, play perfectly clean - even the tricky ones toward the end of side 2. [Secret & Honey]. Finding these tracks, perfectly clean, is extremely unusual. They often are the first tracks to exhibit groove-wear. Not the feintest hint! This BEAST is an absolutely TOP LEVEL player. Love it! FINAL UPGRADE.
Cover (Vg+) A really well cared for original example - many examples do not make it through time looking this refined. A clean and flat front cover with one crease on the left and a few more over toward the opening. Please note that there's also a small 1 inch tear at the opening [toward bottom]. I have tape repaired it - it is now purely cosmetic and very difficult to even make out. The rear has avoided the worst of the ageing process - but some is evident in places [e.g. toward the opening]. The flipbacks are all secure and intact - just some stress creases along spine edge. Edge wear is relatively light and the spine is fully intact with text all still legible except for the 'S' in Please. Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) A bit of ageing. A one inch side split taped up.
