The Beatles - Please Please Me LP PMC 1202 (UK - Parlophone, UK, 1963)
UK 4th Pressing. Heavy card semi laminated flipback sleeve. Black Yellow Parlophone Labels. 1N Matrices. No 'Sold In The Uk' Text.
Condition (I Grade NM / EX / VG+ / VG / VG- / G / F)
Sleeve - VG- Front still looks nice, but quite a few issues. Laminate pretty firm, has some moderate creasing Bottom seam has small split (1cm ish) in the middle. Bottom right corner has split 1cm and curled over. Same issue, but half the split, top right. Bottom flipback on back has been taped up and tape has yellowed. Back has some moderate marks, but no writing or text obscured. Spine, apart from worn corners, is very good - the rubric is still excellent.
Vinyl - VG+ - Visually, I'd grade this VG. Like most copies you'll find, this record shows signs of heavy play in the past, with some patches of scuffing, light scratches, tracking lines and hairlines to show for it - but lustre is good without too much whitening towards the centre. Parlophones tend to be quite resilient to the heavy machines they were played on - but even compared to my other Parlophone releases, this one sounds stunning. Using a Y cable (to play the record in true mono) - the results are quite incredible. Sounds VG+ - EX (and I very rarely use EX, frankly) Fantastic clarity, very little distortion (even at the ends of the sides). There is some crackle and clicks, but they are so low that I had to listen to the record on headphones to make them out (except in the silent bits). Side two sounds is perhaps a little noisier than side 1 - but the difference is negligible. There's no loud clicking anywhere. Great sound throughout without anything to really distract you.
Who wants this? The cover may let down this copy somewhat - and the record isn't super duper clean to look at, but there's very little groovewear on this copy and it sounds fantastic. If you are after a decent vintage press to listen to, but aren't necessarily after a more costly black and gold label copy, this could be the one to get.
