NOTES Made By – EMI (Australia) Limited Distributed By – EMI (Australia) Limited Pressed By – CBS Records Australia Limited Published By – Northern Songs Published By – Wallaby Published By – Tu-Con Published By – Castle (4) Published By – Dick James Published By – Belinda Published By – Pincus Gil Published By – Mellin Bass Guitar – Paul McCartney Drums – Ringo Starr Lead Guitar – George Harrison Liner Notes – Tony Barrow Photography By – Angus McBean Rhythm Guitar – John Lennon Variation of the Orange "Side" Stereo label/pressing. Identical to The Beatles - Please Please Me except that this is a CBS Records Australia contract pressing. Identifiable by their 70mm diameter pressing ring (as opposed to an EMI pressing which has a 33mm diameter pressing ring).
In the wake of John Lennon's murder, EMI Australia could not cope with the surge in demand for Beatles' records and sought outside assistance in pressing albums. While most of the demand was met by EMI New Zealand, assistance was also sought from CBS Records (located in Sydney) and Astor Records (located in Melbourne). These two facilities pressed albums during the first six months of 1981, Pressings from these facilities are identifiable by their unique pressing rings - CBS 70mm and Astor Records 38mm with a 3mm wide indentation.
This release also features the locally recut album on both sides, identifiable by the -2 lacquer number in the dead-wax matrices.
On the label, Track 1.7 has been re-set to close gap between author and music publisher credits. A different font and style to the rest of the label typeset is used.
Note the incorrect spelling of Paul McCartney (McCratney) on track 1.7 author credit. This error remained on every subsequent Australian pressing of Please Please Me.
The cover is now a replica of the UK sleeve (black printing in lieu of blue). Matrix / Runout (Side 1): YEX94 Matrix / Runout (Side 2): YEX95 Matrix / Runout (Side 1 runout stamped): YEX 94-2 Matrix / Runout (Side 2 runout stamped): YEX 95-2 POSTAGE & PACKAGING

GRADING

Grading is as per Goldmine Magazine grading standards, with items being graded conservatively.

SS : Still Sealed - in factory-fresh condition

M : Mint - perfect, possibly unplayed

NM : Near Mint - a near perfect, may have just a few light surface scratches

VG+ : Very Good Plus - has some superficial signs of use that don't affect play. Only well cared for records will grade out to VG+. Will satisfy all but the most demanding collector.

VG : Very Good - a used, reasonable copy. There will be obvious signs of wear and the possibility of light surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages, but still quite nice.

VG- : Very Good Minus - significant wear and marks and usually quite noticeable surface noise.

G+ : Good Plus - In the record world, 'Good' is not good! From here on down (Fair, Poor), we're talking about beat-up records.
