Description

The Beatles, Please Please Me, Original UK Stereo Fifth Press.
When Please Please Me was released in the early 1960s the majority of Hi-Fi systems used Mono equipment. Consequently Mono sales dramatically outnumbered Stereo sales.
The fifth pressing was only available for a short time in 1964, and as two other Beatles records had been released it didn't sell many copies.
The sleeve is unique to this pressing. It features a 'medium' sized stereo logo which preceded a 'large' stereo logo on earlier copies and a 'small' stereo logo on later copies.
As sleeves got damaged over time they were replaced by the other sleeves which are much easier to come across.
Consequently a complete fifth press stereo Please Please Me is one of the rarest Beatles records.
Here is your opportunity to purchase a copy in fantastic condition!

There are several features identifiable on this record which are unique to the fifth pressing, they are:

  • Garrod & Lofthouse flipback sleeve with 'medium' sized stereo on the front;
  • Tracing paper lined Emitex 'protect your records' die-cut inner sleeve;
  • Matrix numbers YEX 94-1 and YEX 95-1; and
  • Black labels with Yellow parlophone logo and silver text.
The labels also feature:
  • 'The Parlophone Co. Ltd' printed on the outer perimeter;
  • 'Recording first published in 1963' to the left of the spindle hole; and
  • 'Sold in the U.K. ...' underneath the Parlophone logo.

The condition of the record is as follows:

Sleeve: Very Good +

Considering the age of the record the sleeve looks great.
The corners are strong, the spine has a sharp edge and the colours are vibrant.
The front has a very well repaired rip along the bottom which can barely be noticed.
The back has a small 2cm stain at the bottom and someones name written in biro along the top.
Otherwise the back is remarkably white with no sign of discolouration.
Overall a sleeve that would sit well in any collection.

Disc: Excellent

This is truly the best copy of Please Please Me that I have ever heard.
I usually prefer mono pressings of mono recordings, but this two-track stereo is simply fantastic.
The channel separation adds an additional layer to the soundscape that you just don't get with a mono recording.
Visually the vinyl looks great with only the faintest of hairline marks.
The audio is crisp with great channel separation and minimal background noise.
The labels are clean with very little spindle wear and no writing or stickers.
It would be difficult to find a better example!

Inners: Very Good +

The original inner sleeve is still remarkably white with no signs of discolouration.
There is a small rip in one side at the opening and the usual creasing around the disc.
I have kept the disc within an audiophile quality, anti-static inner sleeve which is also included.

This is a truly fantastic copy of an extremely rare record that I will be genuinely sad to see go. Hoping that someone will enjoy and cherish this as much as I have.

The record will be sent in a polythene outer sleeve within a padded vinyl record mailer.
