Description
The Beatles – Please Please Me (1963)
Label: Parlophone
Catalog Number: PCS 3042
Sleeve Printer: Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd.,
Collectible 1963 UK of The Beatles’ historic debut LP, Please Please Me.
Early UK stereo pressings were manufactured in much smaller quantities than their mono counterparts, making 1963 stereo variant highly sought
This specific copy features the rarer, highly collectible Ernest J. Day & Co.printed sleeve.
Exact Pressing Verification Details:
* Label Style: Iconic Black & Yellow Parlophone label with silver text and a yellow Parlophone "£" logo. Features the large "STEREO" text on the right side.
* Rim Text: Begins with "The Parlophone Co. Ltd..." (proving it was pressed before the 1965 change to "The Gramophone Co.").
* Key Chronological Indicators:
* Features "33⅓ R.P.M." and "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1963"stacked on the left side of the spindle hole.
* Lacks the "Sold in the U.K. subject to resale price conditions..." text across the center. I think this might place the manufacture date in the late summer/autumn window of 1963.
* Publishing Credits:
* Side 1: Tracks 1 and 2 credit Northern Songs Ltd. Tracks 6 and 7 credit Dick James Mus. Co.
* Side 2: Tracks 1, 4, and 6 correctly credit Northern Songs Ltd.
* Matrix Numbers (Stamped in Runout):
* Side 1: YEX 94-1
* Side 2: YEX 95-1
* Sleeve Details: Correct 1963 front cover with the medium-sized "stereo" logo in the top right corner. The bottom right corner of the reverse sleeve is clearly stamped: "Printed and Made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd. London PCS 3042".
Detailed Condition Report:
Outer Sleeve (Front):Front laminated flipback jacket. Shows rich, vibrant colors and clean lamination. Minimal corner wear and light laminate creasing consistent with age (please review photos).
Outer Sleeve (Back):Excellent condition for a 1963 release. The white cardboard remains bright with some age-related yellowing .
Centre Labels: Excellent condition. The text remains perfectly crisp and the vibrant yellow Parlophone print is bright. Minimal spindle wear around the center hole.
Vinyl Playing Surface (Visual Grade): Glossy surface with only a few light surface hairlines under direct light. No deep scratches.
Audio Quality: Please note that this record has NOT been play-tested as I do not own a record player. It is being sold based on a strict visual grading only.
