Description
The Beatles: REVOLVER UK STEREO 1st PRESS STAMPS 1 & 3 EX AUDIO/Pinched spine sleeve is also excellent. Original ‘Patent Applied For’ inner.
‘Dr Robert’ to sleeve and label.
PLAY TESTED OCTOBER 17TH.
AUDIO IS EXCELLENT, WITH ABSOLUTELY NO SKIPS, JUMPS OR STICKING.
AUDIO
Other than some crackle and pop on the intros to both sides, which perhaps run into the first 20/30 secs, there’s barely a click or pop throughout. At most, any surface noise etc is very occasional, and it’s very quiet throughout. The audio is overall excellent.
INFORMATION.
Released in August 1966, this is a first press, and increasingly rare, stereo pressing, of what many consider to be, their finest work, with YEX 605-1 & 606-1 matrix numbers. It’s also easily distinguishable as one of the initial batch of first pressings, as it has the mis-print of ‘Dr. Robert’ to both label and sleeve. KT embossed tax code to side 2.
With just days before the new Giles Martin re-mix and re-release of Revolver, this is an opportunity to get your hands on the original stereo pressing, with original ‘Patents Applied For’ inner sleeve.
Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd front laminated flipback cover, with small ‘stereo’ on front cover, and with ‘Dr. Robert’ song credit to the back side. Later versions of the first press stereo, corrected this sleeve error, to ‘Doctor Robert’. ‘Dr Robert’, also to side 2 label; again, later corrected.
Black label with yellow logo and silver print. ‘Gramophone’ perimeter print, and SIUK’ text. Original pressings also came in plain white, or white & black advertising inner. This copy comes with an original plain white inner.
This is commonly referred to ‘Variation A’, and is how the labels first appeared, using the Sans-Serif Arial typeset, with the ‘Dr. Robert’ mis-print.
These early labels have each song title starting on a new line with the first line just for ‘Taxman’. Also on these first labels, each song title was followed by song credits and then lead vocalist.
Vinyl Appearance.
Whilst retaining a nice glossy sheen to both sides, there are a small number of marks/hairlines/light scratches. Side 2 has a faintly feelable mark to track 1, which may account for the crackle into the first verse of ‘Good Day Sunshine’. It soon quietens down though, and the remaining tracks on side 2, have excellent audio.
Labels.
There is very little spindle ware and marks, and the label is bright and clean throughout.
Side 2 as above, with embossed KT tax code.
Inner Sleeve.
Original plain white ‘Patent Applied For’ and ‘Made In Britain’ inner has some creasing, but no seam splits, graffiti etc, and is in excellent condition.
Sleeve. (Pinched spine).
Some light/minor creasing to front, and a small mark/cut to the right of George’s lips.
Some light ‘ringing’ to rear, but nicely defined corners, with just age related ware. Strong, easily legible pinched spine.
