Description
This is a very rare example of a very early 1st press UK release of this record in excellent condition. The matrix number for side 2 is XEX 606-1 and label 2 and the back cover also includes the very early misprint for track 4 as “Dr. Robert” which was rectified in later printing.
This is a very early press includes the misprint on label 2 where the track Doctor Robert was mistyped as "Dr. Robert", something that John Lennon allegedly wasn't happy with and changed in later pressings. The vinyl also includes the matrix numbers of XEX 605-2 for side 1 and XEX 606-1 for side 2.
When "Revolver" was initially mixed a different master for "Tomorrow Never Knows" was sent off to be pressed. This mix is known as 'Remix 11'. Although subtle, it is different to the standard 'Remix 9' which was ultimately to replace it. The story goes that each group member was given the first copies from the production line and John went to listen to it. But, it turned out that he was unhappy with the mix or that the wrong one had been used and he informed George Martin. Production was then stopped as the new masters were cut and the pressing plates were replaced. These first presses have a side 2 matrix number of XEX 606-1 whereas the standard presses have XEX 606-2 and beyond. This record has the rare matrix number of XEX 606-1 which was only pressed for a short time until the presses were stopped on the first day as the wrong mix had been used and and the matrix numbers changed for the correction.
The cover is the original, first issue, side opening, MONO sleeve in excellent condition. There is a perfect spine with absolutely no flaking to the laminate and the printed wording “Revolver – The Beatles” clearly readable. On the back track 4 is clearly labelled as “Dr. Roberts” rather than “Doctor Roberts”. There is a light sticker mark in the top right hand corner and the laminate is but slightly raised in places. Other than this there is no wear to the corners and the cover is strong and glossy. PMC 7009
The original UK MONO 1st Issue vinyl LP both in good condition but does have a few slight needle marks and it has not been played to test the quality of the sound. The original Mono 1st Label, Variation A, yellow and black PARLOPHONE labels are in excellent condition with only slight spindle marks when viewed under a bright light. Both labels clearly show the words “Sold in the U.K.” and “Made in Gt. Britain.”
Label 2 has the misprint on track 4 and also something to note on these original labels is that each song title was followed by song credits and then lead vocalist which was not the case in later pressing as by late 1966 the order had changed to 'Song, Lead Singer, Composer'.
The original tissue sleeve is in near mint condition and includes no tears and only a very feint outline of the record imprint. The sleeve displays the words “Made in Great Britain”.
This is a very rare very early first press record in excellent condition and would be most suitable for serious record collectors due to the misprint on the labels and matrix number for side 2.
