LP a copertina apribile. Volume n° 7 pubblicato il 5 giugno del 1976, appartenente alla 1° serie della collana “Country Flag Series” , con inserto di 4 pagine con testi in inglese e giapponese e note biografiche. Larga OBI a colori riportante il prezzo di 2.500 Yen.

I Beatles sono stati un gruppo musicale britannico, originario di Liverpool e attivo dal 1960 al 1970. Hanno segnato un'epoca nella musica, nel costume, nella moda e nella pop art. Considerati tra i maggiori fenomeni della musica contemporanea, a distanza di vari decenni dal loro scioglimento ufficiale – e dopo la morte di due dei quattro componenti – i Beatles contano ancora un enorme seguito e numerosi sono i loro fan club, esistenti in ogni parte del mondo. Secondo stime del Guinness dei primati, è il complesso musicale di maggior successo di sempre con oltre 1 miliardo di dischi venduti, e per la rivista Rolling Stone i Beatles rappresentano il gruppo musicale più importante e influente del XX secolo.

Revolver è il loro settimo album in studio. Venne messo in commercio il 5 agosto 1966. In esso si ritrovano, per la prima volta nella discografia del gruppo di Liverpool, elementi del rock psichedelico. Alla fine del 1965 i Beatles avevano raggiunto la saturazione per le esibizioni live, divenute delle frustranti performances fra le urla assordanti di un pubblico in delirio che relegava sullo sfondo la qualità dei musicisti. Inoltre, le tappe sincopate delle tournée comprimevano l’energia inventiva concedendo loro poco spazio alla composizione dei brani che spesso era confinata nei ritagli di tempo. Pertanto il mondo dell’elaborazione e della registrazione in studio si configurò come una scelta naturale e permise al gruppo di sfruttare al massimo, anche dal punto di vista non marginale delle risorse tecniche, la loro creatività musicale. I tour si diraderanno e il concerto del 29 agosto 1966 al Candlestick Park di San Francisco sarà il loro ultimo appuntamento dal vivo. Sebbene la creazione di nuovi brani fosse, almeno nelle linee portanti, sempre meno il frutto di un impegno corale e sempre di più il risultato di una ricerca individuale, si era ancora lontani dal quel progressivo deterioramento dei rapporti personali che avrebbe portato quattro anni dopo all’implosione del gruppo, e i Beatles costituivano una formazione affiatata, avviata a raggiungere le vette artistiche del biennio ’66-’67. E tuttavia la loro maturazione personale e artistica li vedeva incamminati per sentieri diversi anche se complementari. Paul McCartney si era tuffato alla scoperta della musica classica e nello sperimentalismo; George Harrison viaggiava verso il misticismo favorito dall’immersione nella filosofia indiana; John Lennon era concentrato nell’esplorazione e l’espansione dei propri spazi interiori indotte dall’uso dell’acido lisergico; e Ringo Starr – il meno coinvolto in questa ricerca di nuovi percorsi culturali ed esistenziali – fungeva da essenziale trait d’union per controbilanciare eventuali forze centrifughe. Si può ben dire che Revolver nasce dall’intreccio di questi filoni e la traccia finale, Tomorrow Never Knows, ne è la sintesi più felice ed eloquente. Pubblicato nel 1966, secondo alcuni critici è il disco più bello da loro prodotto. In esso gli arrangiamenti orchestrali di George Martin e la sperimentazione sonora giocano un ruolo di grande rilievo. La classifica dei 500 migliori album di tutti i tempi stilata dalla rivista Rolling Stone colloca Revolver al terzo posto. Al momento di battezzare l'album, il titolo Abracadabra trovò l'approvazione di tutti ma si scoprì che esisteva già un disco con quel nome. Vennero allora via via proposti Pendulums, Fat Man and Bobby, After Geography (in risposta ad Aftermath dei Rolling Stones), Rock’n’roll Hits of ’66, Beatles on Safari, Magic Circle e Four Sides of the Circle, ma tutti senza successo. Ringo ricorda che fu Paul ad avere il lampo di genio, e la soluzione Revolver vide tutti concordi ed entusiasti. La copertina, opera di Klaus Voormann, è il primo esempio di arte beatlesiana, ed è segno evidente di un passo ulteriore verso la folle psichedelia di "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". È George Harrison ad aprire l'album con Taxman (al contrario di quanto si possa pensare, in questa canzone è Paul McCartney la chitarra solista), in cui esprime il suo disappunto nei confronti del fisco inglese (con buon senso dell'umorismo nero: "declare the pennies on your eyes"). Di Harrison sono anche la mistica Love You To, registrata insieme ad un suonatore di tabla, che richiama alle sonorità indiane e in cui compare per la seconda volta il sitar (la prima fu in Norwegian Wood, canzone di Lennon contenuta in Rubber Soul), e I Want to Tell You. A Paul McCartney si devono invece numerosi pezzi melodici, quali Here, There and Everywhere (da lui considerata la sua migliore canzone di sempre), Good Day Sunshine, e For No One; ma anche il rock di Got to Get You into My Life (di cui sono state proposte, nel tempo, numerose cover, fra cui una degli Earth, Wind and Fire), la celeberrima Eleanor Rigby (con quartetto d'archi in sottofondo) e la filastrocca Yellow Submarine, cantata da Ringo Starr, che sarà poi lo spunto iniziale da cui trarrà vita l'omonimo film d'animazione. Ma i brani veramente lisergici, che fanno considerare Revolver un vero prototipo del rock psichedelico, sono quelli di Lennon: I'm Only Sleeping, con nastri di chitarra registrati al contrario; She Said She Said, scritta nel bel mezzo di un acid trip; l'allegra Doctor Robert in cui si parla del "dottore lisergico" della band; e soprattutto Tomorrow Never Knows, pezzo psichedelico per eccellenza, ispirato al Libro dei morti della cultura tibetana, e che viene non raramente citato anche come primo brano di rock progressivo della storia. Il pezzo è basato sul solo accordo di do maggiore. Secondo George Harrison "Revolver" e "Rubber Soul", il disco precedente, sarebbero tranquillamente potuti essere Volume 1 e 2. In effetti "Revolver" è un ampliamento degli aspetti più innovativi di "Rubber Soul", il primo album dei Beatles "più maturi".
