Description
On offer is The Beatles' groundbreaking album from 1966.....'Revolver'. A stunning achievement and in my opinion, their greatest. The copy I am offering is among the earliest Stereo pressings from the official release in August 1966. Aside from the fact that Mono copies were far more common at this time, what makes this Stereo copy rarer stil is found in print on the back cover and on the Side 2 label. When initially released, the song Doctor Robert was mistakenly titled "Dr. Robert". This was quickly corrected on subsequent pressings. However, to find the mispellings on both the back cover AND the Side 2 label is the rarest variation and indicative of the earliest pressing for this title. As you can imagine, this being one of the earliest UK pressings for this album, the sound quality is simply divine. Even at loud volume, distortion is at a bare minimum....the percussion and lead guitar in particular were very detailed and focused. A real gem and a pleasure to listen to.
Cover: Excellent(+) .....despite its 50 years, the cover shows little wear.....some inoffensive creases to the front and back....very minor corner wear. The lamination to the front still holds up very well and as can be seen from one of the photos, shines quite brightly. A very nice and solid example.
Original Inner-Sleeve: Excellent(+)....some normal age discoloration and creasing; but apart from this there is not much to fault here.....no splits or tears were noted. A higher quality inner will be provided to house the precious record.
Record: Near Mint(-) .....a beautiful example....and though some marks and scuffs can be seen at an angle under strong light, due to the way records were made and pressed back then, virtually none of them had any impact on the tremendous audio. A few inoffensive ticks were heard at the start of 'Good Day Sunshine' but little else of significance after that. I auditioned the entire album through very revealing headphones and I can say with certainty this was the cleanest 1st Stereo UK pressing of 'Revolver I've ever heard. It will be very hard (and costly!) to upgrade this copy.
