The Beatles: Rubber Soul 2nd Mono Press with original Emitex inner). Both the audio, and vinyl are excellent, with both sides having 1 Mother.

This is the second pressing edition of this truly seminal album. Only the ‘loud cut’ is really a first pressing (also for sale in my other items), so if you see a ‘first press’ advertised, ensure it’s what’s known as the loud cut edition, with matrix numbers ending in 1. It’s housed in the original ‘rice paper’ lined Emitex inner sleeve, in a front laminated flip-back Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve.

Side 1: YEX 579-5

Mother: 1

Stamper: HP

Side 2: YEX 580-5

Mother: 1

Stamper: HH

Vinyl description: (Visual) Ex

A couple (no more than that) light hairlines/marks to either side. Even under strong light, there’s very little more than that, and would be near mint if not for the hairlines/marks mentioned above.

Playback:

ABSOLUTELY NO SKIPS, JUMPS OR STICKING.

Light surface noise on side 1 intro, likewise with on side 2. Other than that, there’s barely a pop or cluck, with it nice and quiet throughout. Absolutely no skips, jumps, or sticking.

Labels: (Variant B) Excellent.

These are the rarer Sans-sherif type. With the matrix numbers misaligned to the date stamp. Most 2nd pressings have the Time New Roman font.

Side 1 is clean, no graffiti, some/little spindle ware only really visible under angled light, with KT embossed tax code.

Side 2 as above, (no tax code), with perhaps a little more spindle ware.

Sleeve. VG+

The front laminated G&L flip-back sleeve is VG+.

Signs of creasing, with a tare/shelfware to bottom right corner (from front view).

The rear has some lifting of top flipback, and to bottom left, plus a and a name ‘Jackie’ in biro to left of ‘mono’ (top right).

The spine is strong, clean and legible.

Minor feathering to opening (very little), and a small scuff (an inch at most) to top.

Emitex Inner

Rice-paper lined original Emitex inner is in VG+ condition, with a small seam split to top left. There is some creasing, as you’d expect given it’s age. There’s also a biro mark to right side, about half way down.

I’d describe the overall condition of the item as VG+ minimum, simply because the audio is so good. With a better sleeve, it would be graded excellent. I do though tend to be quite conservative in my descriptions, and would rather under play the condition, than leave buyers disappointed.
