Description
An original 1st stereo press of RS on the UK Parlophone label. Matrix 2/2 - very 1st cut. In 1965 stereo was still very much the underdog to mono - and these earliest 1st stereo copies are not all that easy to track down. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original 1st cover. Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) Very unusual to find a true 1st this well preserved and has only seen light careful use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side. Nothing heavy or likely to enter the audio spectrum. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with only the very slightest deviation in a couple of spots. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. You can tell straight way when you hear this LP - it has to have only seen light use. 1965 copies very rarely surface playing this clean. So, if you're in the market for an absolute 1st that plays much much better than most copies will do - have a good think about this one. What was particularly surprising is that it played clean into 'Michelle' - and that is very unusual. Not perfect - but better than 90+% of copies [mono or stereo]. By and large a beautiful player which you'd find difficult not to be impressed with. Copies just don't tend to surface like this one. All the acoustic numbers play really clean - which means you finally get to appreciate them fully from a true early copy. Ok, you might detect a few slight crackles in one isolated moment per side. But rest assured this copy is going to play cleaner than 95% of copies on the open market. A classic copy that would suit a serious collector<<<
Cover (Ex) Again - they just don't usually surface like this - someone has been extremely careful with this copy over the years. That front is clean and flat with just a couple of very minor thumbnail creases. Now that rear is nearly always aged on a '65 copy. But take a look here - this copy has pretty much entirely avoided the ageing process. It's very very clean with all flipbacks intact and secure. If I were being super critical I'd mention a tiny blemish in the extreme bottom right [almost invisible in the photos]. Edge wear is very slight for an Lp of this vintage. The openings are still firm and not heavily worn. The spine is in excellent order with just a couple of minor stress creases. All text fully legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Superb!
