A quick note for collectors: If you’re searching for a pristine everyday copy of Rubber Soul, this isn’t it. If you’re searching for one of the most famous and collectible mono mastering variations ever produced—the legendary Loud Cut—keep reading.

The value of this record isn’t found in a perfect jacket or flawless vinyl. It’s found in the mastering. Much like a rare first-edition book or a key-date coin, condition certainly matters—but rarity and historical significance often matter more. This is one of those records.

I spent a ton of time researching this thing. I’m willing to make a deal and bend on asking price. Some records are collected because they’re beautiful. Others are collected because they’re historically important. The legendary Rubber Soul Loud Cut is firmly in the second category.

Offered here is a highly desirable early Dutch mono pressing of Rubber Soul featuring the coveted XEX 579-1 / XEX 580-1 “Loud Cut” matrices.

This pressing occupies a fascinating place in Beatles collecting. Before EMI in the UK replaced Harry Moss’s original “Loud Cut” mastering, early metal parts bearing the -1/-1 matrices made their way to the Netherlands. The result is a Dutch pressing that preserves the same bold, dynamic, bass-heavy mastering that made the original UK Loud Cut famous among collectors. While housed in distinctive Dutch packaging, this record delivers the sought-after early mono listening experience associated with those original -1 stampers.

This copy also features the desirable early Black Parlophone label variation and retains the original Dutch envelope (“clam shell”) style jacket, a construction unique to these early Dutch issues.

I have personally play-tested this record from beginning to end 3 times before listing. Vinyl has some marks and I initially expected a lot of pops and crackling but was pleasantly surprised that to not be the case.

Overall, the listening experience is outstanding. The Loud Cut mastering absolutely delivers—powerful, lively, and full of the energy that has made these early pressings legendary. Playback is remarkably enjoyable with only the occasional light pop here and there, far less than many records of this vintage.

This part sucks a bit. The record does have one repeatable skip during Track 5 (“Think For Yourself”). Interestingly, I cannot identify an obvious scratch or defect in that area under normal lighting, but the skip is present and I want to describe it accurately so there are no surprises. I don’t own a record cleaning machine. 99.99% of my collection is new level clean so I sell and ship as is. This record is visibly clean but I suppose it’s possible that if it was run through like a laser cleaner, the skip may go away?

Aside from that isolated issue, playback is excellent and borders on what many collectors would consider an exceptional listening copy for a 1965 mono pressing.
