Description
An original very 1st stereo press from Xmas 1965 on UK Parlophone. Matrix 2/2 - very 1st cut. Given that stereo was still very much the underdog to mono in 1965 these TRUE stereo 1st pressing are difficult to track down. Note that 'STEREO' is mentioned on the labels in large format font. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Stereo cover. Also included is the original Emitex inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection the surfaces are still nice and shiny with with a couple of tiny just feelable marks per side. One or two of these arks do sound momentarily - detail below. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with just a couple of deviations per side. First thing to mention is that this copy does not look abused in any way - someone's taken pretty good care of it over a considerable period of time. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. This is not something you find typically on these early stereo copies - it's unusual. By and large it's a very clean and sweet playing copy - gotta love it. I will detail any deviations from the given grading now... I detected a couple of minor ticks mid-way through 'CAR' & 'GIRL'. I also detected 4-5 ticks/clicks during "You Won't See Me". These issues are very brief and minor. Even in these tracks playback is of a very high standard. I detected just a light bit of static briefly in the quiet moments of 'Norwegian Wood' & 'My Life' . Any interference is very slight and brief in nature. Nothing noticeable or persistent at all. Given the relative rarity of this title I would argue that playback is very impressive for the most part. There really is little to quibble with. Even the perennially fussy track Michelle plays back relatively clean [but not perfectly]. Better than what you typically tend to find. Overall a superbly preserved and very sought after copy.
Cover (Vg+) Again, really difficult to find these early covers in anything approaching decent condition. But this example is looking very tidy indeed. An almost perfect front cover - flat and uncreased with minimal handling. The rear is looking very tidy - but has tanned lightly. So, not perfect but much more acceptable than most copies that surface. All flipbacks are intact and perfectly secure. Edge wear is very slight indeed and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A very fine original specimen.
Inner (Vg+) Lightly aged. Writing atop one side.
