complete with cut outs and custom inner sleeve
At the time that this album was released, most labels were beginning to phase out mono, as stereo records had been available to the public for eight years. Stereo was outselling mono, and a result. mono mixes of many pop records from this time are rarer than their stereo counterparts. In the case of the Beatles, George Martin and the Beatles labored over the mono mix of this album, while the stereo mixing was left to a studio hand with absolutely no imput from the artists or producer, making the mono version a true document of the Beatles and George Martin's intentions for the album. Many subtle and not so subtle differences exist between the two, too numerous to detail here. Ultimately, I prefer the mono mix, which was never again available in the United States.
This copy contains the original gatefold jacket, cut-out sheet, pink and red psychedelic print innersleeve (which was only used for the first issue) and of course an original colorband vinyl disc in glorious mono.
Below are detailed descriptions of each item
- THE RECORD: The record labels are very clean, and have no damage or wear except for minor wear at the spindle hole. There are a few hardly discernable spindle trails on side two label. There are no major scuffs or scratches, in fact there are no significant marks at all save for some very light superficial paper scuffs. In play grading, the sound was clean, undistorted and free from surface noise. There is of course some tape hiss, and a few soft clicks here and there. In sum, nothing objectional visually or sonically.
- THE INNERSLEEVE: The custom innersleeve is one of the best I've seen. Usually if found thet are split open, creases or soiled. This one is flat, and has a soft fold - not a hard crease - at one corner. The sides of the envelope are intact with no wear of sign of splitting. The bottom seam has a 1" split in the center. The color is vibrant, the paper seems to have yellowed slightly, but it may have not been white by design. The color range from cream to deep red is distinctly graduated. As I said - the best I've seen.
- THE CUT-OUTS: The cut-outs are in excellent condition, with just one crease on the lower left corner that does not cross the cut-outs themselves. Color printing is precise and vibrant.
- THE JACKET: The jacket is intact, but there is one seam beginning to split on the top right corner (looking at the open gatefold) about 1.5" long. There is wear some color loss and small flecks of paper missing from the left corner seams (gatefold open) Color loss from rubbing is contained to the sky area on the front panel, and ringwear to the red back panel. The inner portrait (open gatefold) has no damage at all - a beauty.
- THIS ORIGINAL ISSUE HAS THE INCORRECT TITLE:
- "A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS"
- PRINTED ON THE BACK PANEL LYRICS.
- SUBSEQUENT ISSUES STATE THE CORRECT TITLE:
- "WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS"
