LABEL VARIATION WITH THE RUNNING TIME FOR
"LONG TALL SALLY" BUT NOT FOR "I CALL YOUR NAME"

Of all of the existing Stereo label variation of The Beatles Second Album this label version pressed at the Scranton pressing plant is one of the rarest and undocumented variation for the "SR21. SPIZER" title. The 1st run labels for this album didn't have the running time for "Long Tall Sally" and "I Call Your Name" on Side 2. Very soon, Capitol Records revised the label by adding the running time for both tracks. Capitol revised the label once again, but only on the Stereo copies of the album. The credit was changed from ASCAP to BMI on "I Call Your Name", but the running time was dropped. Therefore, this Stereo label variation indicates the running time for "Long Tall Sally" but not for "I Call Your Name". Moreover, this label variation misprints "I Call Your Name" as "I Call You Name", which was soon corrected but with the running time still missing on the fourth Capitol's revision of the label. The running time was then added on the fifth revision with the correctly spelled title of the track. NOW, IT'S A TOTAL MYSTERY HOW CAPITOL COULD GO BACK TO THE UNCORRECTED LABEL VARIATION WHEN IT ADDED THE "SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES" RIM TEXT. The rare label variation of this copy is so rare that it wasn't documented, described or included among the The Beatles' Second Album label variations covered by Bruce Spizer in his book.

East Coast Scranton pressing plant with the RIAA manufacturing code "3" printed on the back cover. The vinyl contains the machine stamped "IAM" in triangle identifier and 1st run matrix numbers A1 / B2. The full matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 - ST-1-2080-A1 #3 IAM in Triangle P / Side 2 - ST-2-2080-B2 #2 IAM in Triangle P. The cover containing the Capitol Records' promotional punch hole is graded as Near Mint Minus and in great condition only having some light bumping to the corners and a light crease in the lower right-hand corner. The cover remains in the intact original factory shrink wrap containing breathe holes. Side 1 of the shiny vinyl is graded as Excellent with Side 2 being in Near Mint Minus condition. The vinyl has only a few very light surface scuffs from the original blue Capitol Records inner sleeve which comes with the album and is in Near Mint condition. The labels are fully scuff and wear-free and are in Near Mint Minus condition without having any spindle marks. The glossy vinyl sounds great with a punchy and vivid Stereo sound, perhaps only having some very light background noise during some of the quiet passages which is most likely just the static and will go away completely if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
