Perhaps, one of the rarest copies of “The Beatles’ Second Album” for your collection including an incredibly rare original 8” X 10” photo dated June 4, 1964, the 1st day of The Beatles’ 1st World Tour. The photo comes from the archive of Wide World Photos whose large red rubber ink stamp is located on the back. The photo depicts The Beatles about to board the plane heading for Copenhagen to kick off their first World Tour with Jimmy Nicol, the drummer substituting for Ringo Starr who was hospitalized with a cold before the start of their tour. Nicol played in the World Tour’s first 8 concerts with the band and it’s interesting that the article misprints his last name as “Nicoll”. Going back to the LP. A handful of these promotional copies were prepared for the media and radio station DJs. The album’s commercial release occurred on April 10, 1964 while the promotional copies were shipped a month before. The back cover contains a blue “FREE PROMOTIONAL ALBUM NOT TO BE SOLD” rubber ink stamp at the top right corner. The front cover has a very rare 2.75” x 1.75” original “I Love The Beatles” sticker affixed to the bottom right corner. This promotional copy represents a true 1st pressing as its labels contain a timing misprint indicating “2:23” for the “You Can’t Do That”. Literally the next day, the timing was already corrected and therefore, the majority of the listed copies of this album have the corrected labels. 1st print Capitol Records T-2080 Mono labels containing a 1” pressing ring with the first two songs of Side 2 not having the timing. Incredibly rare promotional copy with the vinyl pressed at the DECCA Records, Gloversville, NJ, plant. The full matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 - T1 2080 H21 D I; Side 2 - T2 - 2080 G23 D I. The record comes with the original blue Capitol Records inner sleeve.

The very clean cover is in pristine Near Mint condition. It has been beautifully preserved over the years and doesn’t have any splits, missing pieces, soiling, ring wear, scuffs, wear, writing or residue, with the bottom left corner only having a light crease. We grade the 1st pressing vinyl as Very Good Plus. It has a beautiful factory gloss only having some very light hairlines and marks as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve which is in Near Mint condition and doesn’t have any splits or tears. The labels are very clean and in Near Mint Minus condition, scuff- and wear-free, only having a couple of very light spindle marks that can be seen under a strong light. The vinyl sounds amazing only having some very light occasional static which most likely will go away if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. The original insanely rare photo of the band with the substitute drummer is in great vintage condition displaying some very light signs of use and light stains from the original paper clips as seen on the photos.
